Performance metrics for Prometheus

I am currently running longevity performance test for prometheus in an air-gapped environment. I want to understand what basic internal metrics I should look for to be added to the Grafana dashboard in order to proactively address any performance issue in the prometheus instance.

You could look at the panels on the Prombench dashboard, e.g.

The four 'timings' panels show different parts of queries; the overall CPU and memory metrics are also useful.
