Guides to explain the proxy exporter pattern and SNMP with Prometheus

Hello everyone!

A while ago in a thread on the user mailing list I wrote an overview over SNMP and Prometheus for people who don’t know much about either.

Ben asked if I could make a proper guide/explanatory text out of it. I indeed want to make one, because it took me a lot of time and help to learn all of that and I hope to simplify life for others and make the topic more accessible.

For that I think another text to explain the proxy exporter pattern (SNMP, IMPI and blackbox) is also necessary.

Hence I want to write that one as well.

So I want to make two issues and then write two texts.

Anything I should know before starting to write the issues/texts?

Dear everyone,

my employment at my current employer ends this month.
For legal reasons I need to publicly make a PR for the guide about SNMP *before* I leave my employer (practically that means before Friday the 29th).
I will likely need to make a WIP PR containing mostly the text from the user-mailinglist mentioned in this thread.
It does not need to and shouldn’t be merged, but I do need to make it.
I know this is not the best style, but all other solutions are very messy from an IP perspective.
The PR can then be cleaned up later.

Any objections?

Go ahead, snmp repo would be best. We still need to find somewhere to put this.
