Bishop Burton examines the Holocaust as an historical singularity. He isolates some of the “old-new’ questions about God, humanity and Christian theology, and explores the rift between Church and Synagogue as being responsible for sowing the seeds of hatred leading to the Holocaust. Drawing on Jewish and Christian responsa, Bishop Burton’s lecture promises to be both enlightening and challenging.
Bishop Mark Burton is dean of St Paul’s Cathedral,Melbourne. He completed his doctorate of theology on a theological response to the holocaust with particular reference to the Christian and Jewish dialogue.
