ISRAELIIsraeli Movement holds annual bike ride
Thirty-two cyclists took part in the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism's seventh annual Riding4Reform fund-raiser, held March 14-18. The journey began in Metulla, Israel's northern-most town, and concluded five days later in the picturesque village of Zichron Ya'acov, half-way between Haifa and Tel Aviv.

WORLDWorld Union / SAUPJ statement on Goldstone family simcha in South Africa

We read with dismay of the "deal" that has been struck by the leadership of South Africa's Jewish Community in the SA Jewish Report of 16-23 April and the Israeli daily Ha'aretz. One can only concur that the pressure placed upon Mr. Justice Goldstone to disappear from his grandson's bar mitzva and his family's simcha is a disgrace.

Torah from around the worldTORAH381Aiming for Holiness: on Parshat Achrei Mot-Kedoshim

by Rabbi Menno ten Brink
Liberaal Joodse Gemeente Amsterdam / Liberal Jewish Community of Amsterdam, The Netherlands

This coming Shabbat we read a double portion: Achrei Mot-Kedoshim. The last parsha is also called 'The Holiness Codex'. It starts by commanding us to be holy. Or does it? God says to Moses: "Instruct the community of Israel: kedoshim t'yehiyu, be holy, because I the Lord your God am holy" (Vayikra 19:2). How can we human beings be holy like God, Him/Herself? We are created in God's image as stated in the first book of the Torah, but we are not God!
