Hey guys,

I used to program in flash a long time ago, and now I mainly do Ruby
and Rails and web in general. I've heard about Project Sprouts some
years ago but never really paid much attention. Some days ago I was
thinking that I could use some kind of generator/templating system for
my web apps - i.e: I need a general CMS with layout A with some pre-
filled data in the db; or maybe a CMS with some additional hacks and
layout B with some additional statics pages and already setup for
nginx.; I then remembered about Sprouts, and just started looking into
it. Is Sprouts flexible enough for the use-cases I presented here?

Cheers!

Marcelo.

Marcelo,

For whatever it's worth, I thought the last line of your post would read "so I checked out Project Sprouts and realized that it was written for people like me" because it reads kinda like the description of how/why Project Sprouts got started.  :)

Ruby already has some nice tools for automation, such as Thor (https://github.com/wycats/thor), rake itself and rails + bundle, but I think Sprouts tackles a different need and is already pretty mature.

For example, while you can basically assemble a new Rails app using rails itself and bundle the gems, sometimes you want to automate it further and add some static html pages and even go as far as setting up other software. It reminds me a bit of Python's buildout.

It's like Chef, but for development.

Great work, guys. I'll dive into it as I have time.

Cheers,

Marcelo.

"Like Chef, but for development"

I have never thought of Sprouts this way, but I *really* like it. What
a great perspective.

For anyone that doesn't know what Chef is - it's the awesome - here's
the details:

Thanks Marcelo!

Luke
