Commitment to Diversity Award Reception Proposal: To all Recognized Student Organizations at GMU 2011

Who we are:

We are a group of six New Century College students from NCLC 320 (The Social Construction of Difference: Building Democratic Relations in a Diverse World). We acknowledge the great strides George Mason University students, faculty and community have made in being a more inclusive campus. We want to unite Mason as a population of individuals working to find the courage in ourselves to stand up to bigotry and injustices. This message of solidarity and the greater public good is the driving force in our event that we are proposing to your organization. We would like your organization’s participation in an Awards Ceremony celebrating the advancements we have made as a campus and honoring specific individuals, which you nominate, on their commitment to diversity.

What we are doing:

We would like to organize an awards ceremony for one or two members of your organization who you nominate for their commitment to diversity. This event will be open to the GMU community, including organization members, faculty and invited guests. This is an effort to acknowledge the benefits of being united for a common purpose and to make a conscious effort to share in one another’s cultures and ideas. Commemorating GMU students who go above and beyond their expected roles to be more inclusive and sincerely open to diversity.

What we would like from each organization:

First, we would like to find out if your organization would like to be involved in this event by e-mailing Project...@googlegroups.com by 8:00PM April 5, 2011.

Second, the nomination of one or two members of your organization who exhibit the qualities listed above. Forms are available now on THIS LINK the deadline for this is 8:00PM April 19, 2011.

Lastly, we are asking for your attendance at the Award Ceremony (date and time are still to be confirmed- we’re looking at 7:00- 9:00PM on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Mason Hall, Meese Conference Room) there will be food provided as well.
