Hi Project Michelle LA!

The A3M Volunteer Luncheon on Saturday was fun, emotional, and inspirational.
Highlights:
  • Transplant recipient Pres, who received a transplant 4 months ago, looks great and healthy, and is returning to work this month, shared how he was so grateful and in awe that his donor, still unnamed, is only 26 years old, and had the courage and compassion at that age to be a registered and be a donor. Pres had no idea what he was thinking at 26, but hopes to be able to give back somehow because of this new lease on life.
  • Donor Mr. Mak, who totally looks like your frugal, concerned Chinese father type, brought me to tears with his humble explanation that he chose to be a donor because we, as human beings, are like family on this Earth and are meant to help in each other, in ways great and small.
  • The A3M staff prepared a giant card for Michelle that they had everyone sign, and had origami paper and instructions for everyone to make paper cranes for her, just like in the story of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes (the Japanese saying is that one who folds 1,000 cranes will be granted a wish).
And there was good food, raffle prizes, and everyone went home with lifesavers (of course :D) and a nifty A3M water bottle :) Thanks, A3M!
