Hello Project Michelle Supporters and Friends,
It has been awhile. We have had much success with registering marrow donors in So Cal, thanks to all of you. One of our most successful drives last year was at Kollaboration Acoustic 2 in August, held at the Ford Ampitheater in Hollywood. We had 10 volunteers, 5 minutes of video/face time during the show with 800 attendees, and 143 registrants!!
Next Saturday, February 21, at the
Shrine Auditorium (6,300 capacity!), we are going to try to beat that number at
Kollaboration 9. PK and the producers
want to register 500 people! We REALLY NEED YOUR HELP.
Kollaboration 9
Sunday, February 21, 2009, 7:00 PM
Shrine Auditorium
665 W Jefferson Blvd, Los Angeles 90007
Volunteers Needed: 20
Tentative Shifts: 5:30-7:30pm, 8:30-10:30pm
Table Location: TBA
Parking: TBA
Contact: Joshua Cho, A3M - (213) 814-8610; Janice Chang, Project Michelle - (562) 713-3937
I will have more details for you soon, but please let me know if you're available for a couple hours! And please forward on to anyone else who may be interested!
If you just want to see the show, please support A3M by purchasing tickets here:
http://www.kollaboration.org/Tickets/Los-Angeles/A3M-Tickets.html
And even if you've already registered, can't register, can't be there that night, there are always ways to help. Tell your family, tell your friends, share Michelle's story, support cancer research legislation, donate to A3M or marrow registration programs, donate to cancer research in general-- the hope is one day cures can be found without having to depend on the marrow donation of others.
Thank you for your continued support!!
A little more about Michelle's progress:
While we have all gone back to our regular (and not so regular) lives,
celebrating the holidays, welcoming 2009, President Obama, and the Year
of the Ox, and dealing with this economic craziness, Michelle has
quietly gone through her double cord blood transplant and endured the
long recovery process that comes with wiping out your immune system and
rebuilding with someone else's stem cells.
But I know your hearts have not been far. Thank you for all your
prayers, positive thoughts, and words of support-- Michelle is nearing
her 100-day mark post-transplant, and is headed home to San Francisco
in less than 2 weeks!! She is still not 100%, and will continue to
recover back in California, but will be among friends, family, and the
foods and places she loves. And best of all, she and husband Van are
beginning planning for a real wedding reception that they had to forgo
when Michelle's leukemia relapsed in April 2008.
While we are still waiting for the day Michelle announces she is
100% cancer- and complication-free, there are thousands of others who
are still waiting for even a glimmer of hope that there is a marrow
match or some kind of solution out there for them. The need for bone
marrow registration is greater than ever. Even Michelle will continue
campaigning at home and at drives when she is well enough; there is no
guarantee that her cancer won't return and she won't eventually need a
marrow transplant.
She certainly inspires me to keep fighting the fight. The Project Michelle website is currently down (experiencing some technical issues), but will back up soon, so keep checking in:

Thanks for reading! And I leave you with a message I saw on a bench at Mountain High on Saturday =)
