Subject: [macchusers] Youth college scholarship: Act fast for "bridge" scholarship funding

Greetings from The Sherwood Foundation:

Over the last few years, we have tried to widely publicize the amazing scholarship opportunity made possible by the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation:  http://www.buffettscholarships.org/scholarships.shtml    Thank you for sharing this information with your students who have a 2.5 or higher GPA and financial need.  Now The Sherwood Foundation is recognizing the need to provide temporary support to students who either graduate in December and have not yet had the opportunity to apply for STB scholarships, OR have had a significant change in their financial need since they last applied for the scholarship.  In order to “bridge” this gap, we have developed a one to three semester scholarship fund for a small number of students who meet the same criteria as the STB Foundation.  If you know of someone who would be eligible to start this spring, they may complete the attached application form as well as complete the college funding estimator provided by Education Quest:  http://www.educationquest.org/estimator/20102011/estimator.htm
These must be submitted by January 15, 2011.  This is a very short time line, but for those who want to attend spring semester, we had to accelerate this process.   Please share with any student you feel is eligible.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, Katie Weitz White at The Sherwood Foundation.  Anyone who receives a  scholarship is required to apply for STB Foundation the following cycle, but is NOT guaranteed acceptance.

I am really counting on you to share this information with appropriate students.  Thank you for your commitment to all Nebraska’s youth.

Best,
Katie Weitz White
