Please forward this information!

Hello Erin,

How are you?  My name is John McGah, Director of Give US Your Poor: The Campaign to End Homelessness.  I worked closely with Marylin Wegehaupt for a while.

I'm writing to make you aware of - and to ask your help (or a staffmember) in spreading the word in Omaha and/or Nebraska re: - a timely, national, college scholarship opportunity for eligible homeless and formerly homeless high school students.

The Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans has almost 1,000 college scholarships to students that have overcome great challenges.  This includes national scholarships of $20,000 each, as well as a number of state-specific scholarships of $2,500 and above.

Give US Your Poor has partnered with Horatio Alger to target the 2011 awards to homeless and formerly homeless students.  The deadline to apply online is October 30, 2010.

Further information (including criteria, online application link, press release) can be found at this link on the Give US Your Poor website:  http://www.giveusyourpoor.org/partners/horatio-alger-association.php

The press release can be found:

Online: http://www.giveusyourpoor.org/news/pr_08-04-2010.php

Or as a PDF: http://www.giveusyourpoor.org/downloads/GUYP%20-%20HAA%20Partnership%20Release%20080110.pdf

I think this is a great opportunity for (formerly) homeless high schoolers.  We are trying to get the word out as far-reaching as possible and in time so kids can apply by Oct 30, 2010.

Thank you for any help in spreading the word.  And please feel free to call with any ideas/suggestions,  Thanks!

My best,

John McGah
