The Built Environment Analytics and Modeling (BEAM) lab in the Department of Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar starting Summer 2022 / Fall 2022. The position will be for one year with the possibility for an extension.
We are seeking candidates for physics-based modeling (discrete and finite element types) for projects ranging from 3D printing to masonry failure. The post-doctoral scholar is expected to 1) facilitate Ph.D. students looking to learn about physics-based modeling and 2) develop new research papers and grant proposals with Dr. Napolitano.
Selection criteria:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Architectural Engineering, or a related physics-based simulation field –required
Demonstrated experience in physics-based simulation modeling through journal publications – required
Demonstrated experience in programming (Python is required, C++ is highly desired)
Prior experience using PyChrono and/or Project Chrono simulation library –highly desired
Strong knowledge in both discrete and finite element modeling
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Experience mentoring students undertaking research projects
