Dear developers and (Py)Chrono users,
I apologize in advance if this question has
already been answered in the forum: should I anticipate any conflicts if I
install Chrono (e.g., via Docker) on the same notebook where I am currently running an older version
of PyChrono successfully? I think I also have to mention that I installed PyChrono via
conda and I’m using Windows 11.
Thanks a lot for your kind attention,
Regards,
Luis
Hi Luis,
If you install a docker image of Chrono (although I’m not sure how recent the latest available one is), there shouldn’t be any issues.
If you decide to build Chrono from sources and do not enable and build the Chrono::Python module, I again don’t foresee any issues. If you want to also build the Chrono::Python module, you may need to be careful about Python versions and environment variables. It may be best to use the Python installation from under conda. Personally, I test conda packages on a different machine than the one where I develop Chrono to stay away from potential conflicts. Maybe someone else has experience with such a setup?
Best,
Radu

Hi Dario,
Right, but since Dario F. already had Chrono with Chrono::Python built this means he already had a native Python installation after which he installed Anaconda. In Luis’s case it’s the other way around, so maybe simply using the Anaconda Python while configuring Chrono will prevent conflicts.
Luis, as you can tell, this is not clear-cut. Please keep us posted on what you end up doing and what you find. This may be of interest to other users.
Best,
Radu
