Hello All,

We are trying to use Chrono software to simulate off-road vehicles, and we will mainly use the finite element method (FEM) and discrete element method (DEM) modules on the ground.
What we want to know is whether the perfect implementation of these modules will differ depending on whether the CPU selection is AMD or Intel.
And when conducting discrete element simulation, are there any restrictions on the model of graphics cards? Is the latest NVIDIA RTX40 series graphics card currently compatible?

Regards,
Wei

Hi Wei,

The FEM simulation will run on the CPU. In principle it should make no difference if you use Intel or AMD. The more cores & cache you have, the better.

The DEM code runs on the GPU - it doesn’t matter if you use Intel or AMD. The GPU has to be an NVIDIA GPU. The more recent the architecture, the better off you are. The amount of GPU memory dictates how large your DEM model can be. The RTX 40 series would be good, for instance RTX 4090 has a lot of memory and streaming multiprocessors. That would be great if you can find it/afford it.

Hello,
We are currently selecting a high-performance computer for this Chrono project. There are now three CPU options available:

1. AMD 7773X, basic Frequency 2.4GHz,  Max Turbo Frequency3.5G , 64 cores,with 2 pieces;

2. AMD 5995WX, basic  Frequency  2.7GHz, maximum  Frequency  4.5GHz,   64 cores, with 1 piece;

3. Intel 8380, basic  Frequency  2.3GHz, maximum   Frequency  3.4GHz,  40 cores ,with 2  pieces.

What I want to know is whether the current Chrono software supports dual CPU mode.

As a software developer, based on your experience, which of the three CPUs above is the best choice?

Regards,
Wei
