Hi everyone!

We are currently building the story team and looking for your talent.

At this point, we are not yet looking for writers - so if you have ideas, creativity, and a passion for Star Control II universe, you have all we need to participate.
I want to open the team membership for the story to this group first, before I start looking for additional members if needed.

I have read some fantastic ideas and discussions from you in this forum already, so I hope to hear from you more formally soon!
Captain Trivates, Shiver, Theophys , Edmond, Joris... (I may have missed others...) I haven't yet heard of you.

Would you be willing to join the story team?

Cheers!
Nico

I'm keen on have a bit of a look over where we're at story-wise. I presume the Wiki is the best place to do this? Or is there another centralised document that I should refer to?

Hey Cedric :) Good to hear from you.

Did you receive my email? I sent you a direct email a few days ago but it might have been lost in the spam, possibly.
If you look for it in your mailbox, it should be from awakenedeyes (my gmail account).

The best place to see where we are, story wise, is the new wiki I am putting in place (not the current one on the project's google code)
Many things were added to the new wiki:

  • A historical overview, including a complete timeline and a list of unresolved mysteries in SC2
  • A place where I have regrouped the trailers and cinematics already created so far
  • A page for some reflections on the ethical dilemmas we'd like to see introduced through the story
  • A list of events happening in the galaxy
  • A place to work on the critical path linking each mission to other missions
  • A place to record the work done on maps and discuss these
  • A page for every race, including all the races from SC2 and all the new ones (existing ones were copied from the old wiki and left untouched for now)
  • A page for Earthling's corridor nine special op division, where the player may spend RU for R&D
  • A list of all the improvement we could do in the gameplay, compared to the original SC2
  • A few new ideas around the use of various starbases for star faring aliens
  • New ideas of resource gathering and the use of RUs
  • A repository for raw ideas that have not yet been fleshed out (so we don't lose them, and they can trigger more new ideas to the team)
  • And several new tools to equip the story team and help us build the story with everything at our fingertips:  a google group to have everyone receive everyone's comments, a shared google folder to attach some files and work on shared docs like the story flowchart, wiki markup help, writing tips and several links to SC2 data banks.

Please email me and I'll send you the address! :)
You can write to me at awakenedeyes at gmail dot com.

Cheers!
Nico

Hi Nico,

I am very interested in contributing this part of the project!
I have read all of the forum's as well and think we could put together one heck of a great story. I am cobbling together some notes I jotted down from reading the wiki into a coherent document and I'll send it your way or post it on the forum. Also, I'm somewhat of an amateur voice actor if you need help there too. Just give me an order :D

Hey Nico,

I have my ulta long essay of story ideas... a lot of it gels with the wiki. But some of it doesn't. Where should I post it? Here?

Thanks.

Jeff

Hey Jeff :-)

I am so happy to see more story and more ideas coming!
So - if you have reasonably structured / focused ideas that can be related to any pages or theme already in the wiki, I'd say write it in the comments.
If they are short but crazy / raw ideas, place it in the idea repository comments.

If they are more in-depth ideas already fleshed-out, storylines, etc. I could create additional pages for you in the structure and we could place it there.
Let me know the page names and where you'd see them :) Then once they are added, everyone can comment on them and discuss them.
Do you know the wiki syntax? If you do, let me know, I can also give you the access to create the new pages yourself.

Cheers!

Thanks for the invitation to the story team, Nico!

I have put most of my ideas in that plot development doc I sent you (and that serves as the basis for the original wiki on P6014 googlecode page), so most of my brainfarts are already there :) On the other hand, I find collaborative writing somewhat challenging - I tend to produce better stuff writing on my own. So, I'll probably be chiefly lurking under some mildewy rocks near the story wiki, keeping up with the latest.

What I'd love to do however, is to write dialogue, when the time is ripe for that. I think I have a knack for that: who can argue that Hayes' ramblings or the Shofixti fighter pilots' patter in the P6014 demo wasn't the best stuff that's ever been written in the history of... written text? :-p

Surely Jaakko's current dialog trees are the pinnacle of literature.
so say we all

So say we all!

P.S. With "I tend to produce better stuff writing on my own" I didn't mean that my writing-alone would trump any collaborative writing effort 6-0... More accurately put: A lot of times I don't have enough patience to try and match the conflicting views of story writers / try to make sense of tens of separate plotline suggestions by as many people. The Abesdris brothers' systematical approach to this 'problem' seems very promising, however, so I'm more than happy to have them aboard!

Inevitably people's story ideas will bump into each other, this is what happens when you get a bunch of creative genius's in one spot and say: Ready... ready... Invent! I've come up with my fair share of ideas, which I think would be awesome to implement, but I'm not jealously attached to anything. My attitude is this: if it's good enough, you guys will adopt it without any cheerleading from me. So with that in mind, I'll keep "Keep it coming" as Abesdris would say.

Yes, of course. We want those ideas to bump on each other.. that's what generates more ideas.
We will take a look this weekend as start to produce some synthesis, see how we can perhaps use the best of each arc and merge some stuff and see what happens.
I'll keep you posted! :)

Hey folks. I am interested in editing, writing and helping generate ideas for this lovely project. I am a full-time marketing writer for a tech company, and I have a dozen years' background in journalism. I adore SC2 and am familiar with its various plot meanderings and races. Maybe the best thing I could do is look at dialog and tone and suggest alternate vocabulary options.

Let me know if you think I can be useful.

Hi Stephen!

Welcome!  I'll write a more complete response tonight but I have to leave soon for the university.
In the mean time, please feel free to read the new story wiki here:

Hello.

Just joined this group so I could follow Project 6014 development more closely.  I may have only discovered UQM somewhat recently (within the past couple years), but thanks to its detailed universe, and the variety of quirky aliens, it very quickly became an obsession.

I found your story wiki, and read it thoroughly.  You guys have come up with some really interesting ideas in there.  Are you still brainstorming new ideas?  If you are, I might have a few ideas, if you're interested.  Thanks.

Hello!

I'm new here, a fan on star control off course. If help is needed I'll do what ever I can. Mostly story, voice acting and music. I have plenty of ideas, I have played the demo which was great by the way! I have also read the storylines and it sounds intresting. This project is way too cool to be missed or dismissed and in the future it will give lots of joy to all those who love the original starcon, including new players off course. Pardon me if my english isn't allways good but I'm a Finn and english isn't my first language. So thank you all very much for a new star control experience. Let me help if it's needed.
