Dear All,

Woruldhord: http://projects.oucs.ox.ac.uk/woruldhord/

It is with great pleasure that we would like to announce the launch of
the Woruldhord collection, a set of free reusable resources to help
with the teaching/study of Old English and the Anglo-Saxons. The
project ran from July-October 2010, and asked academics, museums, and
members of the public to submit - via a website - material that had to
do with the period that they wouldn't mind sharing with others. The
response was very impressive, and we assembled about 4,500 objects
covering art, archaeology, history, language, literature, music, and
modern day representations. The database actually holds over 16,500
files as some of the objects submitted were entire web sites.

We are deeply grateful to all those who assisted, especially the
museums and societies who supported this (seehttp://
projects.oucs.ox.ac.uk/woruldhord/acknowledgements/index.html). The
project was part of our RunCoCo project (Running a Community
Collection - http://projects.oucs.ox.ac.uk/runcoco/) funded by the
UK's JISC. In summary then it demonstrates the powr of the new
technologies, and the community collection model, for generating a
wealth of freely reusable educational resources.

To find out more about the project and to look at the collection (and
to start reusing the objects) see: http://projects.oucs.ox.ac.uk/woruldhord/

This is also a living collection. If you have anything you would like
to add to it now that you have seen all the material available then
simply choose 'Add to the Collection' on the left hand panel,
register, and follow the steps for contributing a new item.
