I wanted to let people know a bit about how things are going to
start. Those of you who are not native to the Verge ('Arrivers') will
be arriving in the gateway to the Verge, Tendril System. It's
possible that some of you (Jim Borala almost certainly) will be
onboard Fredric's Optio's ship at the start, which has just gotten
dropped off by a colossal fortress ship after the long starfall from
the Stellar Ring. Tendril is quite a star system - a blue F1 star
near the end of its life, Tendril bathes the planets around it in
radiation, particularly during peak periods. The most habitable
planet, Alaundril , is a moon of another (Sperious, a planet that
makes Venus look cheery), and isn't terribly habitable itself, to be
honest. Still, StarMech maintains a substantial presence in the
system, benefiting from its status as Verge gateway.

You can get more info as the game approaches or at game start, using
either your own Knowledge skills or the ship's computer, but that's a
beginning.

Ideas on how people see their characters starting? Frederic's ship is
a registered Consortium trading vessel with some unusual
modifications. It's weaponless, and will need defense as a result -
defense that will likely be provided by one lone former starfighter
pilot and the ship she got to take with her when she left the service.

As the nominal Captain, I'd just like to inquire how many qualified pilots
we have in the group. Seeing as we'll have a fully qualified fighter pilot,
I'm confident we'll have protection, but it would be nice if we had a
co-pilot who knows how to fly the ship away from danger while Stephanie's
character is covering us.

For what it's worth, my character will have some skills as a medic, so if
you're torn between medical and piloting skills, you might want to take the
latter.

Also, I don't assume that the second pilot will be on board the ship at the
start; I could see the first stop for the Demon being for the purpose of
hiring additional personnel.

Or, in the immortal words of Wash, "Who's flying this thing?! Wait,
that would be me."
Demon is a good name.

I see my character as a verger, probly i'll steal away in the ship
when they dock first so that i can avoid the cops, or alternitavly,
my character would probly be picked u p by them as a "co-pilot" the
only problem i have no points invested in that, i might take some
points (if Steph RP's teaching me or something like that) but still i
think if i can i'll stay with my acrobatics and sneaking.

Oh and FW i have had an idea for a name for a while but i just wanted
you to give me a name before i decided if it was good or not, do you
think "Kal'sa" might be good for a T'sa? just a thought

Kal'sa is just fine.  That sounds like an okay start - it is true given your character's 'specialty' that signing onto a ship will not be straightforward.

T'sa are generally sought-after techs, I believe.  Not sure how many are Vergers - a small minority, but there are some.  A Verger works, or even a stow-away who's been there since the ship left the Ring, but that's a LONG trip (say a month).

I'm thinking of my character being a Verger (to make it simple)

On a side note... I wanted opinions on this... I was considering having my character having a normal troudble-making kid for a daughter (yup, I need the points etc...and associated headaches/heartaches ... ) I think the extra tweaks of points and stuff might make my character balance out and make her a bit more interesting.

Just wanted to know if people were okay with the concept with an extra mouth to feed.  I am not partial to what age she is.  Just that she be worth the flaw points, etc.  I need all the flaw points I can muster.  Is there a limit to flaws, I'm trying to locate it in the book and having trouble finding it.  I know there's a limit to 3 perks.

I even considered aging her to mature but the character manager engine doesn't have an age category. hehehehe

hugs,

Stephanie

I never received an answer to my question about Zero-G tolerance, so I need to ask it again here.

I want to take Zero-G tolerance for 4 points as a perk, if possible; bt, it is not listed under pilot as a perk.

What do I do?

Stephanie -

I couldn't find Zero-G as a perk in the rulebook, either.  I do recall the phrase from one of the books - where did you hear it?  Jeff, any ideas from your books?

And in general Stephanie, a dependent character is fine. Can be a lot
of work, but we'll figure it out for sure. You should determine what
fleet you're leaving, by the way, as well as a reason you're in the
Verge (maybe you're from a fleet there, maybe not) and a reason you've
got your dependent with you (no other family, maybe?).

I really think having your pilot character join up with Jeff's after
game-start or maybe right before makes a lot of sense - that is, he
arrives in the Verge sans defense escort and realizes he really,
really needs one.
What do I do?

I'm thinking from the list that you sent me today that the star system Aegis might be most appropriate (not sure), as I need your guidance to picking some place that has a "nice" place/person my character owes money to.  As for family, I figured, there's none to turn to (hence the reason for borrowing money and having to care for the daughter all by herself so carefully.  I left some things up to John for dramatic effect.

What fleets are here to leave? Perhaps assume my character is from Aegis (I've not heard back fro you because you've been at work) but if you think of a better one, let me know. As for leaving, I think the easiest solution is simply I did my time and got an Honorable Discharge (or the equivalent), if they would need me again in an emergency, I suppose they could call me up again in some role.  They know about Blue Jay being the only one being able to take care of Megan though, so they'd have to take that into account as a hardship case.... that might have been the reason for the discharge (last caretaker taken out of the picture).
