OOC Thread - Lantan University

All right, I'll start off an official new thread for Lantan campaign
discussion. I have downloaded all the haks for my server, and it runs
fine. I will have the server up and running on Thursday at 9 pm
(hopefully a little beforehand).

I would highly recommend that people do the following ahead of time
(Wed rather than Thurs):
1) Download all haks. That's really hard - there are a LOT. I had
some trouble getting the ctp doors hak, so be careful.
2) Download the module (Lantan University).
3) Open it in the TOOLSET. Don't peek. Really. It's very pretty.
4) By opening it in the toolset, you can check for haks by name. Get
any that you don't have, ahead of time, so that we don't have people
running around at the last minute trying to find them. I was missing
four until I used the toolset to track them down.
5) Now open it as a player, and make a character. Be sure to use all
the nifty tailors and such - this module is loaded with good clothes
and nifty appearing items. Email me the .bic file.

If we can all do that, it should work out fine.

I'd say it's pretty likely we won't be playing for real till next
week, but I'll still have the server up tonight so people can try it
out if they'd like to.

Jeff's sent me his .bic file. I'll get my character ready, too.

I've come up with my character concept. I'll be playing Garrett (last
name TBD), a novice of the Knights of Eternal Order - a group formed
by followers of Kelemvor (god of death). He'll be focusing on
necromancy, and carrying around a very big sword when armed. Overly
serious type.

Hey guys, hopefully we'll all be able to begin this coming Thursday.
I think, for the first session, we'll start off slowly to get into the
setting
and to get a feel of your own PCs and the rest of the party.
Also, it'll allow to me to reacquaint myself with the DM controls
and teach Cy more easily.

After say the first 1 or 2 sessions we can get into the exciting
stuff,
but I just wanted to warn you ahead of time that we'll be starting
quite
slowly, but that it won't always be like that.

Also, let me know if you have any special requests or ideas for the
campaign,
if for example there are some custom items you'd like to use or any
NPCs,
like a sibling or friend who is also a student, that you'd like
included.

No special requests for my character yet, Purple. I did want to get a
head count if possible for tonight. Please chime in if you get a
chance. The server will be up at 9 pm eastern US time; see above post
for the IP address - I'll re-post it when I get home tonight in case
it's changed.

Password will be forrest31 as usual; it will be listed under
Forrestwolf's Server, in the Roleplay category.

Email any .bic's if you get a chance, or you can just make the
character server-side when you log in. There's lots of item and
costuming options, so you may want to make your character as early as
possible.

oh jeez...looks like we're makeing characters and i have'nt even come
up with anything yet >.> oh well! i'll be there tonight if i can and
probably make my character server-side, will there be an available
body tailor? i get that my character would be required to be humanoid
but am i required to be a base race? im writeing up a character
concept as i write this and i would like to know what my restrictions
are ;)

anyway, i'll definately TRY to be there tonight. luckily im not
skating in the morning tomarrow so i dont have to be shoved into bed
by my parents quite as early. hope to see you there! ^.^

I can't speak on the subject of race choices - that's Purple's call - but there IS a tailor in the module in the starting area.  There may be some COST involved; I didn't mess around with it too much.  I'm betting Purple would foot the bill for custom tailoring of outfits if it's too much money.  Very cool CEP-type weapons for sure - I love my celtic greatsword :)

However, that said, while I WILL maintain the server tonight, I most
likely won't be there. One of the reasons I wanted to make sure I'm
not the DM :( Family stuff - I'm sick, half the family is - we're all
getting better, but there's just no way I can do it tonight...

I've got my character all created, and will be very excited to join in
next session (unless I somehow spring free tonight and feel much
better).

I'll keep an eye on the server to make sure people are getting on

I forgot we were doing this, since I missed last week and I thought we are
waiting to start the main campaign until Purple sorts out her schedule and
we settle on a final date. Is this correct and you were just doing a filler
game?

I can probably partake next week, but this week I had to take wife to
airport and although I got back in plenty of time, that threw me off my
routine and until I checked email just now I forgot you might be doing this.

Oshnak signed up for Golemmaking 101 and Dangerous Devices.  I suspect Oshnak's role in both will be as a subject for practical demonstrations.  Oshnak also bought a book for Applied Magic, but only because everyone else was doing it.

Maybe Oshnak can take classes in Applied Non-Magical Instruments (Heavy) and Abjuration (Hand-to-Hand), with a goal of achieving a Ph.D. in Summoning (Aftermath Management).

As far as I know, we're running tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 5th, at 9 pm
eastern US time (be sure to check the time change, Purple - we just
had one). I will have the server running, with the same passwords as

be great to see you there!

Cy - hopefully you'll be able to help out poor Purple this game,

I've got too much to get done and my assignments are running behind
schedule.
The time change is also a bit difficult, I'll be out in the morning
and by the time I get back the session would probably be halfway over
(no change on my end, we're already in DLS).

Cy, if you've completed the 'DM 101' mod you could probably run the
session on your own. We haven't started anything plot related yet,
the group will probably still be signing-up for classes, buying their
books and equipment, settling into the dormitories, and meeting staff
and students. And if you do need help, well, maybe FW could help you
out for this week (as long as he doesn't read the DM docs because it
contains spoilers)???

Although I can play on Thursday's usually, I thought this was interim games

You know, I really, really should read up on the world I'm going to be
playing in before I make up a character concept. I only JUST read up
on 'Lantan' online (do a search for Faerun and Lantan and you'll find
the stuff I did).

I had thought the University would be primarily MAGIC in nature.
Looks like Lantan is full o' techno-happy gnomes. Huh.

Guess Garrett's in for a surprise, since he came to study necromancy.

And good ol' Oshnak is in JUST the right place.

Heh, I did think was a bit odd that none of the PCs so far are
gnomes. :P

Anyways, it's all cool, perhaps Garret misread the brochure.

So Lantan is an island of mostly gnomes, and some humans, other races
are pretty rare to be found living there (though as you saw one of the
professors is an elf). It's a place full of the eccentric gnomish-
inventor-types. Examples of what some of your professors might be like
are characters like Jan Jansen (BG2), Oswald Fiddlebender (IWD2) or
Grobnar Gnomehands (NWN2).

well, when i made my character i was kind of thinking of a mad
scientist :P i just kind of mixed up mad scientist with necromancy, i
kind of expected (with guns) that we'd be makeing things which really,
is what i thought she might be doing...so im fine with the setting, im
just thinking of her as sort of a "magic inventor" just dont be
suprised if the (rhetoricle example) refrigerator she makes trys to
trap you and freeze you into an ice ghost slave

Is there a teamspeak or ventrilo server Purple? I must have
overlooked it, I scanned several threads here. Or are we just joining
the game server only with text chat?

I am having problems with 2 required haks and don't know if that might
prevent me from joining server. I will give it a try.
