We all know that the Internet is a popular communication medium, used
for several purposes including e-commerce, e-banking, bill payments,
access to information etc. (see
http://karnatakaeducation.org.in/KOER/en/index.php/Accessing_Internet
for details on why Internet is very important for all of us)

As the Internet becomes more common, older methods will
reduce/disappear. It is hence important that ALL teachers learn to
become familiar using the Interent. It is wrong to think that "there is
no need to learn digital technologies / Internet"*

One case for this in todays Hindu paper -
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/karnataka/swr-identifies-7-trains-for-dynamic-pricing/article6471673.ece

South Western Railway has identified seven trains for which tickets will
be sold under the “dynamic pricing” mode for the festive season. That
means passengers must buy tickets for all categories in these trains
online at www.irctc.co.in. Current reservations will be available at
stations after charting (which simply means it is not available for most
days).

For many years now, my bank (citibank) charges 100 Rs if I go to the
branch to deposit /withdraw money or for any other transaction. But it
is free to bank on-line!!

(* This message is not for the STF teachers since you are all
accessing/using Internet, but for you to share the information with
other teachers who are not on-line and think it is OK not to learn this
important skill/capacity - of participating in the digital society. We
must of course participate, not only as 'users' but as creators/sharers
through forums like the STF or KOER etc)

regards
Guru

“Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.” - Paulo Freire
