Subject: Dept. of Science and Technology & Dept. of Bio-Technology, Govt. of India (Open Access)
Just imagine lakhs of students and thousands of Science faculty across 35,000 colleges and about 600 Universities across India get free access to the latest scholarly scientific research work!
This is soon going to be a reality thanks to the proposed Open Access Policy that aims to make available all scientific research funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Department of Bio Technology (DBT) of Govt. of India. I firmly believe that once this policy is approved it will have huge ramifications to science teaching and research in India in the coming years. This will also directly provide access to most current science research lakhs of students and many college faculty who otherwise cannot afford to subscribe to expensive scientific journals.
I am happy and grateful to the Policy Committee for acknowledging my two cents of contribution to this policy document. See page 6 of the document :)
I have been advocating that all publicly funded research should be made available to public for free.
LET THE KNOWLEDGE GO-AROUND!!!
