Week 8: "Tahiyyat-ul-Masjid"

The sunnah to be revived this week is the performance of two rak'ahs of prayer upon entering
the masjid. In Arabic, it is called "Tahiyyat-ul-Masjid."

There seems to be a lack of awareness of this sunnah amongst many Muslims. In certain
Muslim communities, this sunnah is almost completely abandoned. Let us revive it in our
lives, with the help of Allah.

From the Ahadith:

1.
Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him)reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"When anyone of you enters the mosque, he should perform two Rak`ah (of voluntary prayer) before sitting.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

2.
Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I came to the Prophet (PBUH) when he was in the mosque,
and he said to me, "Perform two Rak`ah prayer.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Awareness of this issue needs to be raised to our fellow Muslims.
If you are one of those who pracetice this sunnah, then encourage others do so as well.

To note, if one enters the masjid and performs a sunnah prayer for one of the five daily prayers, this would replace
his/her two rak'ahs of Tahiyyat-ul-Masjid. For example, you don't need to pray two rak'ahs of Tahiyyat-ul-Masjid
if you're going to pray two rak'ahs of sunnah for Fajr.

Week 9: "As Salaamu Alaykoum!"

"As Salaamu Alaykoum!" This is the greeting of Islam; the best of greetings. The greeting of Jannah! But...do we give
"salaams" to ONLY those we know? It is definitely the case in our ummah today and we need to improve this, with the help of Allah.

From the Ahadith:

1.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "By Him in Whose Hand is my life!
You will not enter Jannah until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I inform you of something which,
if you do, you will love one another? Promote greetings amongst yourselves.''

[Muslim]

2.
`Abdullah bin Salam (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying, "O people, exchange
greetings of peace (i.e., say: As-Salamu `Alaikum to one another), feed people, strengthen the ties of kinship, and be in prayer when
others are asleep, you will enter Jannah in peace.''

[At-Tirmidhi]

3.
Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`as (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH):
"Which act in Islam is the best?'' He (PBUH) replied, "To give food, and to greet everyone, whether you know or you do not.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

From these ahadith, we see how the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) stresseed the importance of spreading "salaams".
For the most part, our "salaams" only extend to those we know.
As the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) advised us, we should spread "salaams" to all Muslims, whether we know them or not.
This simple act will create love between us, and will be a step towards uniting the ummah, insha Allah!

So, the next time you pass by some Muslims (whether you know them or not), greet them with the greeting of Jannah!

Praise be to Allah and may the blessings be upon His Final Messenger Muhammad (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam).

And Allah knows best.
