Nice topic about a wonderful time in radio broadcasting. Some musics I
remember from 60s/70s prog radio:
Neil Merryweather - trippy rock from the 70s, 2 albums that I know of:
"Space Rangers" and "Kryptonite". They had a sci-fi feel like Uriah
Heep, yet not as heavy.
Leo Kottke - a real virtuoso on acoustic guitar, this guy rarely sang
but really could make a 12 string flattop smoke. I've seen much of his
music available on CD.
A single from the late 60s -
"Mongoose" by a one hit no-name group called Elephant's Memory. These
guys used a bunch of offbeat instruments to create an exotic yet
exciting 45 single, played even on AM for a little while. It never
charted higher than about 30, but what a fresh sound.
Cactus - a staple of the local prog rock station from around 1970.
Very frantic and heavy blues rock for the time.
I look forward to seeing some other stuff here that I've forgotten
about. Meanwhile, I'll put on my thinking cap and try to come up with
some more...
