Hello Network Members,

I want to invite you to check out this new children’s book by Bay Area independent artist and activist Innosanto Nagara. Innosanto was kind enough to show his support for our work by donating some copies of A is for Activist to the Education for Liberation Network fundraising drive as thank you gifts for donors. As the mother of a young son, I was really excited to find a gorgeously illustrated board book featuring protagonists of color (a scarce commodity, in my experience). Can’t wait to read it to him.

I hope you will help me show our appreciation to Innosanto by spreading the word about his book. Let’s use grassroots power to support artist-activists.

And please take a moment donate to the Education for Liberation Network (www.edliberation.org/donate).

In Solidarity,

Tara

Description

A is for Activist is an ABC board book written and illustrated for the next generation of progressives: Families that want their kids to grow up in a space that is unapologetic about activism, environmental justice, civil rights, LGBTQ rights, and democracy!

The rhymes are fun for the kids to hear and play with, but also meaningful for grownups. The illustrations are multi-layered. Children find something they can learn to recognize on each page. There are new things to discover over multiple readings. Oh, and there’s always a cat.

Reviews:

I wish this beautiful and inspiring book was around when my daughter was young but fortunately there are plenty of cool children around today who will devour what Inno is serving up!

Dan Zanes (maker of 21st century all-ages music and the Grammy Award winning album Catch that Train!):

Full of wit, beauty and fun, we can think of no better way to learn the alphabet.

—Naomi Klein (author of The Shock Doctrine) and Avi Lewis (filmmaker)

This is the perfect gift for every child—and every parent—in your life. Fun, funny, exquisitely illustrated and brilliantly written . . . May a thousand young activists bloom!

— Medea Benjamin (cofounder Global Exchange and Code Pink)

Beautiful, inspiring, and offers an opportunity for parents to explore their values with their children. At this time in history we need books for children that use words like, justice, ally, freedom, and advocate. Our children are the activists who will help to heal the world.

— Rona Renner (RN, Parent Educator, Host Childhood Matters RadioShow)

A welcome addition to the family of kids books that speak to the possibilities of change . . . This book is rad!

— Tomas Moniz (writer/editor rad dad zine, a zine on radical parenting)
