Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can find information on setting up and ODBC connect to Epicor progress?
We are a QAD users but one of our other plants uses Epicor 9 and want to Connect through ODBC
Any docs or help in general appreciated - ODBC connections are totally new to me (never tried this before)

Thanks

Thanks Paul and Glenn,

I will pass this on to our companies Epicor support people - they are not very familiar with Progress but I will try to help them out

Do you think there might be any other issue since this is the setup they are trying to get through as they pointed out to me

Basically we need to get from Excel on Windows 7 Pro end client -> Citrix Xenapp client install -> Progress OpenEdge version 10.2A 64 bit server

It is simple:

1. Start a new broker on the database with a different -S port and -ServerType SQL 2. Adjust the -Mpb, -Mi and -Ma parameters to suit your number of users 3. Adjust the -Mn parameter on the primary broker to reflect the additional -Mpb then add another 10 4. Start the new broker

On the ODBC side:

1. Download the free "SQL Client Access". If you do not have direct access to Progress' ESD then you may need to ask QAD or Epicor 2. Install it 3. Create a new ODBC DSN pointing to the host and port where the new broker is running

Once that's done, report back and we'll discuss authentication (_USER) and authorization (using GRANT).

Paul,

Thanks, and yes no soapbox needed I have been trying to tell them that, additionally if they do try this I have told them they may break the integrity of the database. I am certain that if they try to update the database they will not know whether they are updating all the correct tables or not.

I sense a disturbance in the Force...

You don't need that Citrix layer. You can't use that Citrix layer even if you want to if Excel is running on the W7 PC.

And if I may permit myself to do the soapbox thing for a second: Are you nuts!?! Don't give end users ODBC access to a production database.
</soapbox>

As I mentioned previously, you'll want to control access via GRANT. You'll also want/need to run dbtool to adjust field widths and run maybe/probably UPDATE STATISTICS occasionally.
