Does anyone here have any experience with the java implementation of
ruby? We have a project that is currently using java web services.
We'd like to take a more rapid dev approach, but would rather not
change the deliverable (it is a government client and the approval
process for new software is crippling). We currently deliver a .war
for deployment.
I was thinking about trying to kill 2 birds with one stone.... Suggest
ruby on rails as the rapid dev tool, and position myself to get paid
to learn more RoR :) The alternative to this is Cold Fusion (which has
already been approved by the client).
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have no experience with this, but it has been supported by Sun, so it has a chance at being stable. I hear you can run rails on it. Good luck!

Haven't used jruby either, but I've heard very good things about
deploying easily with Glassfish. For political context, jruby is
stable, and no longer handled by Sun. The jruby crew is now on board
with EngineYard, a Rails hosting company: http://www.itworld.com/business/72663/suns-jruby-team-jumps-ship-engine-yard
