On the other hand, my father loved technology, and he not only acquired a wire recorder (short-lived predecessor of the tape recorder) shortly after World War II, but also a 16-millimeter movie camera and projector. Thus, while commercial films remained taboo, we happily watched home movies in our darkened living room.

A rare exception to this escapist fare was Rhapsody in August (1991) by the octogenarian Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, in which an aging woman of Nagasaki flashes back to the moment when the bomb fell, while her visiting grandchildren, enjoying their holiday in the modern city, heedlessly ignore her.

My life at the movies, from Quo Vadis to Rhapsody in August and far beyond, took directions I could hardly have foreseen in 1951. Nevertheless, as citizen, historian, and ordinary consumer of American popular culture, I have been shaped by more films than I can possibly remember. My minister grandfather, already in his forties when D. W. Griffith released Birth of a Nation in 1915, never saw a commercial movie in his long life. (He died in 1971, just short of his hundredth birthday.) Nevertheless, to his credit, he never criticized the different choices I made on that matter, as on many others.

My iPhone will not play aa inflight movies. I have been on 5 flights and no movies will work. The ads work just fine. However, after I watch the ads I get a spinning icon on my screen that never goes away. The movies do not work.

Apple cannot hack into someone else's app and fix their problem. AA has had a longstanding problem of failing to update their app when new versions of iOS come along, I believe they contract with a company to develop their app. If you are able to see the adds but not the movie that will be a Digital Rights Management block and is put in by the people that are supplying the movie. Do you have an account with AA to pay for the movie?

BTW, this is primarily a user-to-user technical support site although there are some Community Specialists that answer posts that go unanswered by a volunteer after 12 - 24 hours. I would strong suggest you call AppleCare so you can relay the details of your issue and they can pass it along to AA.

I was not able to fix the problem during the flight. I used a laptop computer running windows that worked fine. My iphone is running Software version 15.0.1 I have another American flight coming up on November 1st. I'll try additional troubleshooting steps then and update the results here.

My wife and I could not stream any movies on our recent trip via American Airlines to Cabo and back. As previously described in this thread, we could see the ads prior to the movies and could watch trailers, but the movie start arrow did nothing. I have an iPad with up-to-date iOS and an iPhone 13 Pro Max, my wife has the latest iPad and an iPhone 12 Pro, all with up-to-date iOS...nothing worked. Pretty frustrating!

I can confirm I was able to see a movie using iOS 15.1. However, one thing I did note is I flew on an Airbus aircraft (versus a Boeing plane) and the movies instead of being supplied by viasat was being supplied by airbornemedia (gogo inflight). So I'm not sure if this is the reason why or if it's because of the OS update. I'd like to assume it's because of the update.

The issue you're seeing isn't related to our connectivity solution; the problem has impacted all Apple customers that attempt to play DRM content with a Safari Browser. You'll need to upgrade your iPad to iOS 15.1 before your next flight. Any Apple devices attempting to view Wireless IFE content when running iOS 15, 15.01, or 15.02 will result in the end-user receiving an error that this user witnessed during his flight. Let us know if this works.

I'm running iOS15.1 on my new release iPad 9th Gen. Had the same problems described on a domestic flight last week, even tried deleting the AA app and then re-installing it before my next flight. Flew yesterday on an AA aircraft using viasat again but issue still exists. Very frustrating, and since I'm currently running iOS 15.1, the issue is obviously beyond just the version of iOS.

The issue was thought to be fixed on IOS 15.1. Problems exist with the older IOS 15 versions, but not versions earlier than 15. The comment above is the first to mention a problem on IOS 15.1, while some others say it fixed the issue. I haven't flown yet to try the new IOS. I have no idea at this point so I plan to fix my problem by not flying AA anymore cross country until they figure it out.

OK so flew two flights this weekend, both with Boeing aircraft and using Viasat. Used a 2017 iPad Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, both with iOS 15.1. Was able to see movies, however with some caveats. Please note:

With the iPad it was a bit tricker. When I opened in Safari, movie would play, but it seemed to be taking a lot of processing power. I could not scrub the video, difficult to maximize screen, etc. However, when I used the trackpad on my Smart Keyboard to maximize the video, then everything ran perfectly. I had to do it this way because when I pressed with my finger it would take too long for the iPad to respond. When maximized it was like I was watching a movie downloaded on my device.

I traveled in late November and movies would not play on my iPad Pro. Like other posts, the commercials would play just fine but the movies would not play. I did upgrade to iOS 15.1 per the comments in this thread and the movies are now playing on my iPad. As someone else mentioned, the movies controls (play, pop-out screen) are a little finicky but seem to work. My opinion is progress but still not perfect.

American Energy Cinema explores how Hollywood movies have portrayed energy from the early film era to the present. Looking at classics like Giant, Silkwood, There Will Be Blood, and Matewan, and at quirkier fare like A Is for Atom and Convoy, it argues that films have both reflected existing beliefs and conjured new visions for Americans about the role of energy in their lives and their history.

The essays in this collection show how film provides a unique and informative lens to understand perceptions of energy production, consumption, and infrastructure networks. By placing films that prominently feature energy within historical context and analyzing them as historical objects, the contributing authors demonstrate how energy systems of all kinds are both integral to the daily life of Americans and inextricable from larger societal changes and global politics.

One: due to my family upbringing and some incredibly fortunate events, like the opportunity to attend the 2006 National Championship between Texas and USC, I grew up a Longhorn fan. By the grace of God and a back injury that ended my football career at Hardin-Simmons University, my path in life came to Texas Tech. I am a better person because of that school and the people around it. However, I will always have a soft spot for the old Texas legends like Tommy Nobis, Major Applewhite, Earl Campbell, and Freddie Steinmark. It's the way I was raised. I can't help it.

Two: This is not about bashing Freddie Steinmark. His autobiography, titled "I Play To Win", is incredible. No matter who you root for, Freddie Steinmark is a guy who did everything the right way. He was a freaking Spartan, the kind of man you rally around when the worst has come to pass. No one played through pain the way he did, and I doubt anyone ever will. That's why the movie about him pissed me off so much.

The best thing you can say about My All American is that it's historically accurate. Freddie Steinmark is everything the book and movie says he is, and most likely more. I don't think that there's a single person on record with anything bad to say about him. He really did have to have his leg amputated due to bone cancer. He actually did partially inspire Nixon to start the War on Cancer. The entire film just wreaks of something being thrown together without much care to presentation. There is a way to do these types of movies. We saw it with Unbroken, the film about Louis Zamperini. Schindler's List is the best movie I'll never watch ever again because of the way it depicted the Holocaust. Remember the Titans is the golden standard for how to make a feel-good sports movie. My All American falls short, and it's definitely not because of the source material it draws from.

For starters, the opening scene with Darrell Royal telling the reporter about how Freddie Steinmark is "his All-American" should have been at the end. Someone honestly thought to themselves, "Hey, you know that scene where we reminisce on what a great man Steinmark was and we see his lasting impact on one of the men he impacted the most, who is also an integral part of the story? Let's put half of it at the beginning and not the end". How you screw that up so monumentally is beyond me. The audience has zero connection to Steinmark or Royal yet, unless you're a die-hard Texas fan. You know what's a great idea? Let's alienate every single person that is hearing the story for the first time. It's only the beginning of the pandering that came throughout the entire film. The film could've been from the perspective of a dang Darrell Royal flashback and it could've been better

Fifteen minutes in, and the movie has already made 3 scenes attempt to feel like the climax of the film. I understand that Freddie Steinmark's story is highly emotional. But does every single scene have to feel like the end? It seems like the filmmakers tried too hard to make every single thing about this movie feel like the pinnacle of Freddie's career, even when it clearly isn't for anyone who knows his story.
