I am doing a project which is building a website for my CS 205 class. I have made it using notepad++ for the html files and notepad for the css files. My site has a home/index.html page as well as 5 other content pages. What I did was created each each page in notepad++, with each page having its own css file.
What I'm having trouble with is it must have 1 css file that maintains a consistent look across your site / or link all pages to the same css external file. I'm not totally sure if those two mean the same thing that's why I list both of them.
I already have a style sheet in each html page that links to its css file. But I must have one css file for the entire site. Could I just copy and past each css file into one without it changing how each page looks? I would really appreciate it if someone could explain how I do this without it messing up the setup I have for each page.
To answer your question, yes you can combine all of our stylesheets together into a single stylesheet provided you do not have any duplicate class names. Notice in my example how I have a .class-for-index that is used in index.html but not in page.html and similarly for .class-for-page.
For example: add this to a login page, the main.css file will give the overall layout like body background-color, font-family, font-size etc. etc. while the login.css is specifically tailored to the login.html page.
However if you decide to follow the 1st technique, it is advisable to separate strictly page specific CSS (styles that are being only used by as single page) by comment lines. This makes the file more readable.
You've learnt an important lesson of the DRY principle - Don't Repeat Yourself. Maintaining many CSS files creates overhead - how many places do you want to define/change the styling for H1 for example? This is why you've been asked to have a single file.
I'd recommend taking the largest of your css files and making it the master. For each of the other files, add those elements that are missing from the master. It's tedious, but that's the problem you created ;)
You could just copy and paste each file into a single master file and it would work (this is css and the last definition will win), but it's poor practice and you'll just have problems editing it when you have to find the actual definition you are using.
I think a single css file to be created and linked to all pages. You can create multiple css files too but one css file would be easy to maintain and once your index.html loads the css file would get cached in the browser.
You can create a separate CSS file and put all of your "common" CSS into that, call it main.css for example. This is CSS for tags such as p, h1, h2, ul, li etc to set fonts and margins etc across the whole site since these should not really change between different pages.
Since the project calls for 1, just make sure you don't override the styles of elements on pages you want styled differently. If it means adding some additional divs to encompass tags on multiple pages to not lose points then go for that.
The idea would be to have each button do a certain function. Like the first button would turn on my outside lights for 5 minutes. Or second button could turn on my in side lights. And finally the third would turn off lights.
There are a couple of options, one of which is to use a vera as a secondary controller (it works just fine with the Wayne dalton device) and there is even a community member who completely hacked the Wayne dalton device and shifted it over to Zigbee. But that requires physically manipulating the device and adding a new radio.
I have been Googling and reading because I was also interested in trying to use the Homelink buttons in the car to turn on or off a light controlled by a GE Z-Wave switch that is integrated into my SmartThings network. It looks like you have researched more and accomplished more than anyone else working on this problem. I like your Zigbee hack of the Wayne Dalton gateway and I may proceed with that - it sounds like a fun project but within my capabilities (since you have done the heavy lifting).
There a a round about method I used, but you need the original garage door motor and take the receiver module and connect those wires to a Zwave relay. That should work if the relay is low voltage. I originally did it with the two wires to the lamp, but it timed out and went off.
In fact doing it this way, means that you can upgrade your automation system in the future and maintain the integration with your car for only the cost of a door/window sensor since the garage/gate frequencies are grandfathered in hundreds of millions of car and homes and are unlike to be replaced anytime soon.
Download the game to the iPad, backup the phone and then restore the iPad from the phone backup. Just beware that your iPad will now be a clone of your phone in terms of data, files, camera roll photos and everything that was in the iPhone backup will now be on the iPad.
I downloaded the app (Clash of Clans) onto my ipad, backup the phone, then restored onto the ipad. But when I open the game on the ipad, it doesn't update with the current level that I am on when I'm on my phone, instead, it starts the game from the very beginning.
And another question, in my Game Center, it doesn't show my achievements for this game at all. It shows that I have zero achievements, which is not true. So now, when I log onto the game on my phone, I get a Game Center Alert asking if I want to load the level of the game that is on the ipad to my iphone, which is the exact opposite of what I was looking to do. How do I go about fixing that? Thanks!
It should not have worked that way. When you restored the iPad from the iPhone backup, that should have transferred the game saves to the iPad. It appears that it wiped the game progress for some reason.
Are you sure that you restored the iPad from the phone backup? You can launch iTunes and go to Edit >Preferences>Devices and see all of your backups in that window. Look and see what the date of the iPhone backup was.
Well if the progress wasn't up to date on the phone backup, it will not be up to date on the iPad either. But if you have been playing the game all this time and you backed up the phone, then the phone backup should have your most current game saved data in it. Therefore, when you restored the iPad from the phone backup, that should be up to date as well.
I played it yesterday. I checked the other games that I am currently playing also and all the status/levels/achievements got transferred over, all but this one game (Clash of Clans), which is the only one that I really care about when it comes to the level that I have achieved on it thus far.
Try this on both devices even though I don't think it will work - it isn't going to hurt anything. Close Game Center completely and quit all Game Center apps in the recents tray, them reboot both devices.
Reboot the devices by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
I followed your instructions for the ipad and the iphone, but unfortunately, it did not work. Worth the try, but bummer! The game on the ipad is still at the beginning of level 1. The only consistant thing I see for the Game Center that is on the ipad as well as my iphone, both shows zero achievements.
I am not that familiar with the ins and outs of Game Center, but you do have to sign in to see your acheviements isn that correct? If so, sign out of Game Center on the phone and then sign in again. Maybe refreshing your account will help.
Yah, I tried signing off then signed back in but it still gives me the same stubborn results. haha, it's like it knew to purposely mess with me on the only one game that I wanted. But however it's screwing me over, I REALLY appreciate how you've stuck by and tried to help me through this Demo! Thank you so much!
Hi Demo, how do I back up my ipad games before I update my ios version? I already backed up the device in icloud but Im afraid ny current clash of clan level will not load just like what happened to npihcuk. I have two apple devices with the same clash of clan app with different levels. How do I make sure that the current level of my clash of clans game in my ipad will be saved and not the other one that is in my phone? Thanks much.
I've got the exact same problem, just bought an iPad mini hoping to play games from where i left off on my iPhone. Unfortunately the sam app Clash of Clans hasn't worked and it keeps taking me back to the start. I've even tried using iExplorer to copy the data and this still hasn't worked. It's just so frustrating as a lot of the game you have to wait hours or days to make things better, this will take a lot of time to get back to where i am on my iPhone but by the looks of things it's my only option!
I had the same problem most of you had while trying to keep my Clash of Clans account after changing my iphone. The first problem was that I did not have my original CoC account linked to Game Center and the second was that because I did not know anything and I'm not the best IT guy in the world, I thought that I could just start CoC in my new phone and due to the "restore" feature in iTunes I would have all the progress transfered to the new phone; well, needless to say I was wrong. Fast fwd..... I had to delete CoC from my new phone, create a new apple ID on my old phone, link it to Game Center and then link my original village to Game Center. Once you do that and if you are using apple products just log in to your new device with the new apple ID and it will ask you to "replace" your current progress with the new progress, click "confirm" and you will be set.
