Kokology is the study of kokoro which in Japanese means "mind" or "spirit". The series of Kokology books were created by Tadahiko Nagao and Isamu Saito, a professor at Rissho and Waseda Universities in Japan and an author of a number of bestselling books regarding psychology and relationships. The main focus is the analysis of the deep psyche. Using theories from Freud and Jung. Kokology Questions typically are "guided" Day Dreams or Submodalities

Very little is known about the design of kokology questions. It is possible that they begin as a set of direct plain english questions which are encoded by a "revese lookup" of dream interpretation and archetype theory targeting a specific mordalitie cluster in an Nth dimensional Structural model of the mind containing applicable axis`s see [1] for an idea of how to picture this

While there are slight variations from person to person, the game begins by asking another person to imagine a scene or situation. The game then follows by asking the person questions about the scene. Once the scene is completely described the interpretation phase begins

Once the narrator has an understanding of the scene described, he or she may (or, as "Secrets of the Cube" suggests, may not) assist the player in interpreting the scene. The general interpretation is often as follows (however, the player should not take these interpretations as gospel, as there are many individual possibilities; encourage the player to "go with your gut"): the interpreter may expand on the general meaning of the relationships between the responses. with elements of dream interpretation and archetype theory used to interpret the contentthis can be followed with a new narration phase.

Kokology is akin to a projective personality test with elements of dream interpretation and archetype theory used to interpret the content. It has no scientific support and suffers from the same biases of these methods.

A typical kokology game involves a scenario or a question where the participant must choose from multiple outcomes or describe what they imagine in response to a setup provided by the game. After the participant makes their choice or describes their vision, a psychological interpretation is given based on this choice. These interpretations are meant to be reflective and insightful, often connecting with personal emotions or past experiences that influence decision-making processes.

In Japan, where kokology originated, the game is part of a larger cultural fascination with personality testing, seen in other popular formats like blood type personality theory. The appeal of kokology lies in its simplicity and the instant feedback it provides, making it a compelling tool for introspection and entertainment. As it spread to other countries, kokology was embraced for its novelty and the unique perspective it offers on psychological exploration.

Despite its popularity, kokology is not without its critics. Skeptics argue that the interpretations can be overly general, similar to horoscopes, and might not be scientifically validated. Moreover, there is a risk of overreliance on such games for personal insights, overshadowing more robust, evidence-based approaches in psychology.

Kokology offers a unique blend of entertainment and introspection, serving as a mirror to the inner workings of the human mind through playful scenarios and questions. Whether used for self-discovery, team building, or just as a fun party game, kokology invites participants to reflect on their choices and behaviors in a creative and often enlightening way. While it should not replace professional psychological advice, kokology can be a valuable tool for prompting self-reflection and conversation about personal motivations and traits.
