Ideas for our Classroom Activities Library

Hi everyone!

We have a little extra in our budget this year (I know!) and we are hoping to spend some of it on building up our teaching center's Classroom Activities Library. Do you have any ideas for materials we might purchase? Essentially this is our "active learning is great, play is great" resource lending library for our faculty. We are trying to avoid anything that is too course/discipline specific. 

Right now we our library is primarily Lego bricks, which are a HUGE faculty (and student) favorite. :-)  We also have individual dry erase boards, some copies of the board game Draw Your Own Conclusions, and community building activities like Story Stitch and Rethink. We have a MakerSpace with 3D printers and a Laser Cutter....so this is more smaller, low/no tech things.

Hi Katie

Thank you for sharing these especially the Story Stitch - I have attached an activity using Dobble cards which may be of interest and use to others. You can buy the cards online and they give so many learning options - this game I called a beautiful collision because the groups I worked with often found something in common they didnt realise. For example the music symbol led to a connection of work colleagues love of Motown and had been to the same concert the week before. They had only known each other for 12 years and this exercise opened up so many conversations and creative thinking around what questions to ask.

I’ve gotten literal years of good use and better discussions out of the game Typecast (by Rumba). I think you can only get it on eBay these days, but it’s great for teaching things like audience analysis, bias, etc.

 

You know how I feel about Story Engine 😉

 

Card games like Munchkin, Guillotine, Doomlings, Mix Tape Party, Aye Dark Overlord, etc.

 

Bulk DnD dice!

 

Also Tupperware in case any of the loose bits need to be divided up.
