Hello,
My name is Erin Bauer and I am an online instructor in the Entomology Department at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. I teach Forensic Entomology to graduate and undergraduate students and am currently running a pilot of a new alternate reality game (ARG) I have created called The Death of Dannie Bee that has my students learning about how entomology and crime intersect though three fictional case studies and transmedia storytelling (using a variety of media types to advance the narrative). This Fall, I will be offering the course as a non-credit version that is open to everyone and may be especially interesting to those who like complex murder mystery ARGs (and learning some entomology while they are at it!).
I wanted to get the word out to other game enthusiasts or play educators about this opportunity and encourage you to register! I have created the game as part of my PhD research to see how ARGs affect student engagement, learning, and collaboration, and I’ll be asking for volunteers to participate in Zoom interviews near the end of the course to discuss their experiences with the game. Again, this part is voluntary, but I will let anyone who is interested know more details about this once the semester is underway.
Below you will find the registration link and some additional information. Cost is minimal--$20 and participants can choose to get a badge at the end of the course if desired. The course will begin Aug 25th . Registration link:
