Update and An Invitation to a Talk on Improvising With and In Higher Education: All Together Now

Hello Everyone,

I'm excited to share that my edited book, Improvising With and In Higher Education, is being published this summer. This book, and the community it has been building, has been a joy to co-create.

I'll be presenting this book to colleagues and students at the University of Washington Tacoma on Thursday, May 29 from 4-5pm Pacific Time (US and Canada). The presentation will be on #Zoom and here's the title and a blurb for the talk:

Improvising With and In Higher Education: Stories of Co-Creation

This talk reviews the theoretical and practical-critical activity of Improvising With and In Higher Education: All Together Now (Palgrave Macmillan), a forthcoming edited book by higher education administrators, faculty, staff, and students in collaboration with community members.

The talk introduces stories from the book that illustrate how and why improvisational theater (improv) supports student and instructor engagement, faculty development, administrative activity, research, and community building. The talk also reviews how the book itself was created via processes that mirror the very ideas it embodies.

Throughout the talk, we will draw upon key improv practices highlighted in the book: “Yes, and…,” collaborative play, ensemble building, and moving beyond knowing.

Join us to explore and co-create stories of a higher education that is more human, more alive, and more open to new possibilities.
