Hello, folks -
I'm a recent subscriber with academic interests in play, but I currently operate outside academic circles as an artist and entrepreneur. As such, I'm not up to speed with the current academic zeitgeist, but I would love some suggestions that might correct, alter, and shape my emergent exploration of how puzzles specifically can be utilized on a developmental growth path.

From a design perspective, I aim to integrate aspects of evolutionary psychology, joint attention in social contexts, social attachment theory, and the active inference framework, ensuring my puzzles have a pervasive, positive, intergenerational impact on individuals and communities.

Asking the hivemind here:
  • Any research I should be aware of?
  • If I were to schedule a 1-3 month academic sabbatical, where and who would you suggest interacting with?
Thanks!

Hi Jasen,
Anne Williams at Bates is a leading expert in Puzzles.  Here's a link an article from the American Journal of Play https://www.museumofplay.org/app/uploads/2024/11/AJP-16-2-3-Article-2-Therapeutic-Play.pdf

The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY has a research fellows program and would provide you to an impressive research library not to mention their own extensive collections.Good

Any, if you are able to go to Europe I'm happy to share other suggestions -- feel free to contact me directly at: gpen...@uindy.edu

Toyfully,
Greta
