Hi Lisa,

The Timbuk Toys shop in Denver organizes play groups for adults. I have attended one before the pandemic. They also organize several D&D clubs for adults there.

Thanks,
Siva

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are well. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone knows of any adult play places that aren’t a bar, bowling alley, arcade, etc. – anything more unique and especially anything with adult playground equipment. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of any play museums or play centers (preferably focused on adulthood but anything really). I know of the Strong National Museum of Play<https://www.museumofplay.org/> which is great – but are there any other things out there like this?

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s out there!

I would say Meow Wolf, https://meowwolf.com/, would fit this description. Not specifically aimed at adults but at people generally. Very immersive and very playful.

Hi Lisa,

Mike Montague’s Playful Humans Podcast is geared to adult play. Do you know Mike?

Kerri Schiller a wonderful friend who did her Phd. in Adult Play teaches adult play classes. I highly recommend you reach out to both of these people.

The Wharf in Washington, DC has large swings three or four adults can swing on. If you find a photo on google share it with me. I have seen adults having a good time on them.

Below is Dr. Debora Wisneski she is playing checkers at Dupont Circle in Washington, DC with a man. We had the most playful experience.

Also below is a photo of adults hula-hooping at the resort www.caponswings.net I will be leading Playful Adventures there May 11-14.

I hope this information helps Lisa. Keep playing!

To piggyback on the MeowWolf suggestion, Hopscotch in San Antonio, TX<https://letshopscotch.com/>. And Fairgrounds St. Pete<https://fairgrounds.art/> in St. Petersburg, FL. Both are immersive art experiences. Hopscotch is more free play – lots of things to interact with and photo ops. Fairgrounds, you can go the free play route and just wander, or they have two different scavenger hunts that you can try as well. My partner and I just went on Sunday and it was a blast!

Hello All,

I recently came across a spot on social media
https://junkyardsocialclub.org/. I believe they offer some adult play/ art
experiences. I also saw that the Denver Children's museum had an event
called Joy on Tap that was for adults to experience and play in the museum
from 7-10pm. It would be so fun to see if we could connect with a
children's museum to offer an adult play experience.

Hi, Katherine!
1. I am very fond of an old board game called "Once upon a time". I used it
both at university and in schools very often in various activities: from
developing imagination to training language skills (I made a home
translation into several languages for this).
It's actually an old game (from 1993), but it still impresses with its
multi-functionality. In the post-Soviet countries, it was sold as a fake
for a long time, now the official translation is on sale, but I found it on
Amazon, please check whether it is still on sale there
<https://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Games-ATG1030-Once-Upon/dp/1589781317>.
In any case, I highly recommend looking it up, it's great.

2. For my classes (I'm a historian), I found one wonderful tool - a
magnetic marker whiteboard with a world map on it. This is an extremely
cool tool not only for the history discipline, but also for geography,
economics, political science, sociology, and more. It's only disadvantage
is that it cannot be transferred from class to class, it needs a permanent
place where it will hang. Here is just
<https://www.shutterstock.com/ru/image-illustration/whiteboard-world-map-illustration-see-vector-130833995> an
image of what it looks like, I have not yet found it on sale in the
international segment
Maybe you can order here <https://everase.com/custom-map-whiteboards/>, I
don't know:

I even used it to create a serious history learning game called Historiana.
It is designed for the school program and can be played even for 6-7 years
(!!!) in a row. We started playing it with my class, managed to lose for a
little more than six months, but, unfortunately, the war started in Ukraine
and all these plans have been postponed for now.

best wishes

Oleksii
