Outside of the economy, the various mechanics that make up Space Commander range from passable to genuinely inventive. All the pieces are here for an excellent entry level space sim but the horrible economy just drags the entire experience to a halt and makes it feel like much more of a grind than it ought to be. With some very small changes Space Commander could be excellent. As is, it will have some appeal to enthusiasts like myself, but for most there will be other space sims on Switch that will scratch the same itch much better.

Energy shields won't protect against collisions with other ships or against allisions with stations, asteroids, structures, terrain, debris, and the like. Be careful when locked onto an enemy ship to not let it drag you into an asteroid or part of a space station or a larger ship. The "auto avoid collisions" option can reduce that hazard but won't entirely eliminate it.

There are three subsystems that require continuous recharging. You can control how the available energy is distributed between the shields, weapons, and boosters. There's no point in routing any power to the shields when fighting in atmosphere rather than space. There's no point in routing any power to the weapons if you don't have any energy weapons, or if you aren't planning to heavily use the ones you have. Frequent changes to energy routing can make a big difference when you're in a tough battle.

You can travel to any of the marked locations on the map. That includes stations, ships, wormholes (later in the game), and a number of "empty space" markers. The empty space markers are scenic view points.

The Jupiter system is the land of opportunity. A gas giant can't be mined, but the four Galilean moons provide both raw materials and gravity wells that space stations can orbit in. There are a lot of stations around Jupiter, operated by six different factions, and there's plenty of money to be made without having to travel far. Three ground bases provide some of the raw and refined materials needed by the four space station factories (metal parts being the most important of those). The Stellar Mall produces a wide variety of expensive manufactured goods, although you'll have to go "next door" to Equilibrium if you want electronics. The mall is the only place in the Solar System where you can buy hardware.

Space Commander: War and Trade can be enjoyable for genre enthusiasts and people who really like some commerce mixed into their space-sim adventures. For the more action-oriented player, however, this one can become a bit of a grind. Good effort, but not what I would call a must-have game.

Once there, you get to fly around aimlessly, admiring the nice design of the somewhat same-y outposts and space stations, before clicking a button to instantly dock. You are then free to play with menus for as long as you desire. In these menus, you can upgrade, buy, and sell ships, buy goods to haul to a different station, sell goods that you have brought with you, and read your email about new places you can visit with the click of a button.

Dive into the ultimate single-player space sim with multiple career paths, engaging gameplay mechanics, and diversified missions ranging from exciting space battles to an authentic, sandbox RPG experience.

Depending on your preferences, you can choose between building a safe yet pedestrian trader career, the honorable, action-packed role of a space ranger, or the profitable but dangerous life of a mobster. Whatever you choose, make sure to excel, gather reputation points for your actions, and obtain access to the most challenging and best-paid missions.

Making the right choices will be crucial to ensuring the success of your missions. Aside from choosing the best ship for the job, you need to manage fuel usage, choose the best trading or smuggling routes, and even buy your own space stations that will allow you to explore the furthest corners of the galaxy.

In the end, becoming a true space commander, whether pursuing a legal or not-so-legal career, requires skills, money, and luck. So tell me, rookie, do you have what it takes to achieve ultimate galactic dominance?

Prior to the change, Shaw served as the deputy commander for AFSPC; assisting the AFSPC commander in organizing, training, equipping and maintaining mission-ready space forces and providing missile warning, positioning, navigation and timing and communications capabilities for U.S. Space Command and other combatant commands.

As commander, Shaw is responsible for the CFSCC mission to plan, integrate, conduct and assess global space operations in order to deliver combat relevant space capabilities to combatant commanders, coalition partners, the Joint Force and the nation.
