Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

So, yes, without God isn't everything permissible? As an atheist who loves Dostoevsky I often keep asking myself this question. If everything is indeed permissible without God and I don't think it is not, won't it better to have some faith than no faith? I mean, I realize religion has lead to untold suffering, but what's the alternative. I know Dostoevsky wasn't an atheist, what did he think?
Edit: Few years ago, I believed that religion causes evil somewhat. Yeah, that was naive, it preserves stupidity of generations and it's incompatible with the secular humanism we practice today, so I am not a big fan of religion nor do I think having no structure and meaning to life is good. Atheism, I feel leads to existential nihilism and I don't feel like that's a great thing to live with. I am an atheist, I can't look at facts in the face and behave that there is a God now (I know many do and I am not judging them), but yeah, my convictions are not as strong as before. This question, without god isn't everything possible basically summarizes my dilemma.
Like a good engineer, God made everything for a purpose. Sometimes the purpose is easy to figure out: every sheepherder knows that the main purpose of a ram and ewe copulating is to get more lambs. The purpose of other things like the appendix, take careful study and time to figure out. Some things, God tells us, we will never know because His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9), and some of His plans He keeps sealed until the end of time (Revelation 10:4). About some things in our fallen and corrupted world, God gives us clues in His Word, for example, His purposes for wicked men like Joseph Stalin, or Pol Pot.
Handing our cares and worries over to God gives us peace which keeps us from falling into doubt, as stated in Philippians. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
It's looking at the fact that history repeats itself - that comes up a lot on the album. If you look back at people a thousand years ago, think how violent they were and how much we've learned since then, then turn on the TV and look at what we're actually up to... it doesn't feel any different to me. I think we're foolish to think that we're somehow improving the way we interact with each other; everything still comes down to this question same question of 'why can't you be more like me?', which is what all conflict boils down to, be it conflict of religion or conflict of politics. All these insane things still dictate who gets killed and who doesn't. The main thing I'm saying is that I want to go back to before we had all this complexity. Can't we just go back to when all we had to do was catch our dinner and build a shelter? Maybe that's where we should've stayed - as animals.
This book deserves all the love and hype surrounding it! It is a very cute story about a girl who is allergic to everything. One day, a new family moves into a nearby house and she befriends their son.
I liked everything about this book. The way it is written. The fact that it is interrupted by illustrations and notes written by Madeline. The fact that this book has some similarities to "The Fault In Our Stars" but only it is way better and lighter and happier. (And also, HAWAII!)
One of their persistent questions was about the Rapture - the moment when the Lord returns to take His church to Heaven before the Tribulation - and when it would happen. The first eleven verses of chapter five focus on this moment, where Paul encouraged them to live diligently, waiting for the Lord, but not to give up everything and wait around for it either. Instead, they are to live for God, obeying His commandments and commissions out of love.
Why do you confuse yourselves by worrying? Leave the care of your affairs to me and everything will be peaceful. I say to you in truth that every act of true, blind, complete surrender to me produces the effect that you desire and resolves all difficult situations.
By the end of the first chapter, it seemed that Job had essentially lost everything over the course of just one day: servants, animals, and all of his offspring. In the midst of unspeakable mourning, he stated the above declaration. Oh, if only that were the end of his misery!
Did Job actually lose everything? Well, not quite. He lost everything but his faith in God. It was tested to the extreme for sure, and he seemed to have doubts and frustration, but God never left him even when it felt like it.
The Bible teaches that God is all-knowing or omniscient. The word "omniscient" comes from two Latin words omnis signifying all, and scientia signifying knowledge. When we say that God is omniscient it means that He has perfect knowledge of all things. He does not have to learn anything and He has not forgotten anything. God does not have to reason things out, find out things, or learn them gradually. He knows everything that has happened and everything that will happen. God also knows every potential thing that might happen. God even knows those things that humankind has yet to discover. This knowledge is absolute and unacquired. The omniscience of God means that He has perfect knowledge, perfect understanding, and perfect wisdom as to how to apply the knowledge.
The believer may rest secure in the knowledge that God knows everything about them. Nothing about any of us will take God by surprise. No one can tell Him anything that would cause Him to cast us out of His presence. He thoroughly knows us.
As we examine what the Scripture has to say about the extent of the knowledge of God several things become clear. First, God is a God of infinite knowledge - there is nothing that He is not aware of. God is not like human beings in His knowledge. He cannot learn anything, does not need to be taught and does not make any mistakes. Consequently He is able to righteously judge humanity for he knows the thought as well as the deed. His omniscience also allows him to predict the future. He knows everything that will happen before it occurs. There is great security for the believer in the omniscience of God. He knows the need of each believer and he promises to meet those needs. All those who have put their trust in him are comforted by the thought of God's omniscience.
