More than 2,400 Ohio State students study abroad each academic year, with more than half participating in programs led by Ohio State resident directors. The growth in study abroad at Ohio State is directly attributable to the many faculty and staff that recognize the importance of undergraduates having at least one international experience during their college career.
During time spent abroad with students, resident directors find ways through the teaching and learning process to incorporate methods in which students can begin to attain these competencies. Study abroad can change the lives of students forever and resident directors play a critical role in the transformation.

Over the past 25 years, research performed by emergency physicians (EPs) demonstrates that bedside ultrasound (US) can improve the care of emergency department (ED) patients. At the request of the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD), leaders in the field of emergency medicine (EM) US met to delineate in consensus fashion the model "US curriculum" for EM residency training programs. The goal of this article is to provide a framework for providing US education to EM residents. These guidelines should serve as a foundation for the growth of resident education in EM US. The intent of these guidelines is to provide minimum education standards for all EM residency programs to refer to when establishing an EUS training program. The document focuses on US curriculum, US education, and competency assessment. The use of US in the management of critically ill patients will improve patient care and thus should be viewed as a required skill set for all future graduating EM residents. The authors consider EUS skills critical to the development of an emergency physician, and a minimum skill set should be mandatory for all graduating EM residents. The US education provided to EM residents should be structured to allow residents to incorporate US into daily clinical practice. Image acquisition and interpretation alone are insufficient. The ability to integrate findings with patient care and apply them in a busy clinical environment should be stressed.

A Resident Director (RD) at Tulane University fulfills five primary areas within the Office of Housing and Residence Life: Staff Supervision, Community Development, Student Development, Departmental Responsibilities, and Administrative Duties. This position serves as a catalyst for student engagement in the residence hall communities and role models daily interactions with students for student staff.
There are a lot of things I enjoy about working as a Resident Director at Tulane University, but the thing I enjoy most are the student interactions. Whether it be through supervising the RAs, attending RA programs and engaging with residents, or just saying hello and building rapport with my students, these students are wonderful to work with. This year, my students have challenged me professionally and personally and I have learned a lot about myself and where I hope to go with a career in student affairs. Additionally, I enjoy the office culture here at Tulane. We are able to joke and have fun with each other, while still being able to get great work done!
"I enjoy working with my Resident Director because I know I always have someone to ask for advice with unique or challenging situations with residents. Sometimes, the validation and support an RD provides helps empower me as an RA to do my job with full confidence. I also appreciate having someone to discuss ideas for programming to help me make concrete plans for an abstract idea"
"My favorite part about working with my Resident Director is figuring out what community builder to do with my residents as there are many possibilities to get closer to my residents depending on their various personalities"
"Our RD facilitated a really amazing training for us; his energy and commitment to each of us was really unmatched and got me excited about being a returning RA. He led discussions on identity and values that I still think about when interacting with my residents now"

Second, the absence of a resident board inhibits transparency and accountability. A resident board would provide civil society with easier access and a voice within management, giving them a better sense of inclusiveness. Most development projects require the support and assistance on the ground from non-governmental organisations and they need to be plugged in from the start. This requires that they are heard at headquarters.
Finally, this has led civil society groups to express more general concern about less than adequate communication, which could be mitigated with a resident board that would open more access to management, as many ADB board members do for civil society.
If a resident board were established I believe it would remove one of the major concerns of Washington and Tokyo, and may counter the belief in some quarters that the AIIB reflects geopolitical objectives, thus easing future membership into the institution.
The AIIB has taken many of the right steps in articulating what they plan to do relative to governance and safeguards. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, as we watch how these initial cooperative projects with other MDBs are implemented. The establishment of a resident board would be the crowning indicator that the management of the AIIB will welcome transparency and shared governance with all stakeholders.
