The genuine taskkill.exe file is a software component of Microsoft Windows Operating System by Microsoft Corporation.
"Taskkill.exe", located in "C:\Windows\System32", (64-bit systems have a 32-bit version in "C:\Windows\SysWoW64"), is the second in three development steps by Microsoft allowing administrators to terminate tasks locally and on remote systems, from the command prompt or in batch files. Its internal description is "Terminates Processes." It is also known as the Kill Tool. It has multiple parameters enabling it to cause a complete local or remote shutdown or select only particular computers and/or tasks with great precision. Meant to replace "tskill.exe", ("Remote Desktop Services End Process Utility"), it coexists with it, because some users' administrative batch files still call it. ("Tskill.exe" may only be a 64-bit program.) Two Microsoft descriptions of "taskkill.exe" parameters exist, one from 2009 and one from 2016, both marked "no longer maintained." This is because PowerShell's cmdlet, Stop-Process, is meant to replace it. Many malwares plant "taskkill.exe" as a debugger name in registry keys.

The .exe extension on a filename indicates an executable file. Executable files may, in some cases, harm your computer. Therefore, please read below to decide for yourself whether the taskkill.exe on your computer is a Trojan that you should remove, or whether it is a file belonging to the Windows operating system or to a trusted application.

Hello. I am trying to run taskkill.exe and tasklist.exe in Windows PE. If I copy taskkill.exe and tasklist.exe onto my flash drive and try to run them, I get an error message saying that the file "framedynos.dll" is missing. So I put this file into the same directory on my flash drive as taskkill.exe and tasklist.exe and I don't get an error message, but the programs seem to not work. Is there another .dll file that I am missing or something or is Windoes PE just not designed to run these programs?

As mentioned in previous comment depending on your application that bot is handling you can add bot logic to perform taskkill.exe, else you can configure control room Auto login setting to "Always create new session"

I got around to learning the Launchy plugin API and wrote something simple for fun. It will index one's processes and utilize taskkill.exe to terminate any of them by process name. This is equivalent of:

I have an issue in non-persistent environment where users are not admin and sometimes one of the processes they use gets "suspended" status in task manager - naturally this causes issues with that process, what I've done is provided them with argument based taskkill.exe privilege elevation I noticed it gets elevated but that just doesn't cut it, it get access denied for terminating the suspended process,

Hi @DEMdev I've upgraded and saw that the elevation task indeed bumped it to high but for some reason still not able to perform taskkill.exe on that suspended process, I am of course able to do the taskkill.exe successfully with an admin user using "run as different user",

Are you on the latest version of Nitro 10? The issue you're mentioning is listed as fixed in Nitro 10.5.8.44 and later. You probably want to contact support ( ) if you're still seeing it. Otherwise, here's the method I used before the issue was fixed: Right-click on the desktop, and go to New, and choose Shortcut. For the location, paste this in: C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /F /IM nitropdf.exe /T For the name of the shortcut, I used Fix Nitro not opening but you can use anything you want.

When I compile using taskkill.exe /F /IM "%scriptfile%.exe" in the Run Before tab, I get a message that says "This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I also tried "ProcessClose" in the Run Before/After to replace "taskkill.exe", but it doesn't do anything. It just compiles w/o error, but doesn't close the open app that it is compiling. But I do get an error at the end about not being to close a file in the AutoItEXE folder.

We have a problem in our environment where sometimes a copy of Acrobat Reader will go off the rails and consume an entire core on the TS it's running on. This process is always behind the scenes, not an active window. We have had an alert set up to tell us when this happens, however, it's a pain to then have to go log into the machine and terminate the offending process. So we tried to set up an action in Alert Manager to have it kill the process, but it doesn't seem to be working. Part of the problem, it seems, is it doesn't seem possible to get the PID (Or perhaps we just missed it). As it's usually only one or two out of several running copies of reader that's misbehaving, we don't want to kill all 'AcroRd32.exe' processes, just the one or ones misbehaving. Is there some way within SAM to get the PID of the offending process, and then apply that to a taskkill.exe program execution in the Alert Manager?

abebot trojan is likely a Trojan and as such, presents a serious vulnerability which should be fixed immediately! Delaying further investigation of taskkill.exe may cause serious harm to your system and will likely cause a number of problems, loss of data, loss of control or leaking private information.
