The Mentalist is an American crime procedural television series that ran from September 23, 2008, until February 18, 2015, on CBS. The series follows Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) based in Sacramento, California and later on for the FBI. He has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his amazing skills of observation. Jane also makes frequent use of his mentalist abilities and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium using paranormal abilities he now admits he feigned. He abandoned his pretense out of remorse when his attention-seeking behavior attracted the attention of a serial killer, Red John, who killed his wife and daughter. With the exception of "Pilot", the first episode, and up through "Red John", the eighth episode of season six, the titles of all episodes refer or allude to "red" (or some shade thereof) as a word, color, or concept. Titles of episodes after this episode refer to different colors (e.g. white, silver, violet, blue, grey, black).
With the exception of the pilot episode and season 2, episode 21, ("18-5-4" = "R-E-D") each Mentalist episode title incorporated various colors. Up to and including the sixth season's "Red John", the titles always included direct or indirect allusions to the color red, including various shades of red or items normally associated with red (e.g. blood, roses, fire). These "red" references served as a reminder of Red John, the mysterious figure responsible for the murder of Patrick Jane's wife and daughter. After the Red John storyline was resolved in "Red John," episode titles would allude to colors outside of red.

We have been watching the Mentalist this month (January 2024). We were on Season 2 and knew that we had 7 seasons to watch. Now, today (2/1/24) ALL of the seasons -every single episode - has disappeared! Why was the show removed?!??
Same here - was into Season 4 and it just was gone - no warning like being on the "Leaving soon" list. Only place I found that has the Mentalist is Max, which I don't have subscription for. Really got into the show and hope they bring back soon.
(Micah Nelson) holding a similar Tupperware container to his stolen one. So we eventually see Jane has a plan to take Brenda down and he convinces Lisbon to go along with it. And we see the fall of Brenda Shettrick the PR specialist of the CBI. And Mason Braverman (Mike Doyle) got the scope of a life time.
Jane then returns to his Red John nest after begging Lisbon to let him do so, Lisbon consents. As she goes down the stairs, Van Pelt comes to inform Jane about some new info. Lisbon takes the folder, and goes to investigate the lead on her own.
This was a fun, fun, fun episode. A lot more drama was found here than I thought that there would be. LaRouche has really grown as a character on this show and he has become a fun reoccurring character to the show, and it is always fun when he drops by with his monotone voice and his humor. I liked how we see the desperate side of his character and it brought a whole new layer to his character.
Jisbon had some fun moments in this episode. First was Jane teasing Lisbon about her having to take anger management classes and it not working. When Lisbon hit Jane, she let out a smile that could light up a town. Then when Jane threw out his sexy comment as Lisbon prepared for her interview as Brenda came to fetch her. Also I really liked the scene where Jane convinces Lisbon to go after Brenda. I like the situations when Lisbon is giving a nudge by Jane to do what is right and to trust her gut. I also like the look Lisbon gave Jane at the end when she let Jane have his thinking time, it showed desire to help, but she let Jane have his time to focus. She trusts that Jane will eventually tell her what he finds and from the preview and the news that I have heard about the finale is that she will have a fun reaction to the first name on the list.
Jane had two moments that really stuck out to me, and as to why I like the character. The first is the smile that goes across his face as he tricks Brenda into falling nicely into his plan. The second moment is when he pokes at Brenda when they are interrogating her. She calls people in the interrogating room, lambs going to the slaughter. After Jane reads her character like an open book he makes a sheep noise to mock her.
Also we see a certain side of his character and even though his pursuit of Red John is borderline obsession. He will put that aside for his friends and people that he cares deeply about. Last week he immediate stopped for Lisbon and this time he worked hard to help LaRouche. I really like that he does that even though getting revenge against Red John is the most important thing to him. Honestly, I think that it shows a little how his character has grown this season.
Now Brenda played the villain in the episode and she did a decent job of being menacing, but it was fairly obvious that she would get her come up-pence. And it was a definitely a fun. They faked a raid and they caught her on camera trying to warn the drug cartel leader.
Now the big reveal!! Dun dun dun dun dah!!!!!!! What LaRouche had hidden in his Tupperware was a tongue that he had cut out of the person that raped his mother, and this event lead to the eventual suicide. Although it is kind of gross, I guessed that it was a body part when he walked down the stairs. I know it is not much, but I had my moment of triumph for a split second. This brings a great deal of depth to his character and the fact that he keeps this as a reminder of how far a person can sink in order to achieve peace of mind.
One thing that I enjoyed about the season was Jane and Lisbon getting closer to each other as genuine partners. I think that is the key. Whether he likes it or not, Jane is starting to re-grow the neural connections between his intellect and the full range of his emotions.
anomoly, not to mention the white roses (i think) that might be a Lisbon theme. they certainly showed up during the second mashburn ep. as i noted, i think a study of flowers in the mentalist might prove, at least, interesting.
The meaning of shimmering white roses is not very hard to decipher if you go by their appearance. The color white has always been synonymous with purity and virtue. And so, sincerity, purity, and chastity are some of the obvious meanings of a white rose. When you need to convince that your affections are straight from the heart and are as pure as virgin snow, use a white rose. But there are more hidden meanings in a white rose than meets the eye.
White has ever been a symbol of innocence, of a world unspoiled and untarnished. The meaning of a bunch of glowing white roses is innocence and spiritual love. The white rose glorifies a love that is unaware of the temptations of the flesh and resides only in the soul. As opposed to the red rose that speaks of passionate promises, the meaning of a white rose is in its simplicity and pristine purity.
This and later myths about Aphrodite display the dual nature of love: purity and innocence represented by white roses; desire and sexual gratification by red ones.
In one story she runs to help her wounded lover Adonis and catches her flesh on the thorns of the white rose bush. Her blood falling on the bush turns the roses red, symbolizing the way innocence and purity change to experience and motherhood.
-This is kind of a follow-up to the previous wish, but a fight between Jane and Lisbon that is not resolved by the end of the episode. These two have so many issues, good and bad, that need to come to the surface that I feel like this would be the best way to do it justice. Plus I really like it when Lisbon calls Jane on his crap* and it needs to happen more often.
-Rigsby, Van Pelt, and Rigsby/Van Pelt being kept to the barest of minimums. I am done with their characters and their relationship. Now all they are doing is eating up screen time for characters I enjoy and am interested in.
-Returning characters! LaRoche, Bertram, Stiles, Mashburn, Minelli, Sean Barlow, etc. I would especially like to see Hightower and Darcy since they fall into the special category of Red John collateral damage. Red John ruined their lives, what are they up to now?

Foreshadow, definitely. With the exception of Stiles, none of the seven candidates would make anyone think that they could get a large number of people to gladly kill and die for them. Red John clearly has the ability to put on a mask of normality and come across as a mundane person. Odds are the writers are going for a big Keyser Soze style reveal with Red John.
So I am not optimistic about the consummation of Jisbon on The Mentalist. All signs seem to point towards Lisbon becoming more and more fearful for Jane as she can no longer deny her love, and meanwhile Jane getting more and more obsessed as he approaches ever nearer to Red John. In a funny way, Jane loves Red John more than he loves Lisbon.
I would like to see Jane is something other then his suites. Someone put on there wish list downtime for the time it be a great chance to see them all in everyday clothes. If not more girly then more green and red colors she looks good in.
Zee, you reminded me of the talk Jane and Kristina Frye had about their date outfits in their sort of dating attempt! Also Still has to find and listen to those desert rose songs, thanks everybody who contributed to this early analysis of the season 6 premiere. ?
