Information about the much-awaited The Sims 5 has been mostly kept under tight wraps, but plenty of leaks have already surfaced thanks to a playtest called Project Rene (via Screen Rant). The latest entry in The Sims franchise is expected to elevate the already-excellent gaming experience of The Sims 4, which, despite its gameplay flaws, is well-loved due to the barrage of mods and custom content packs it allows players to use.

The great thing about mods and CC packs is that they help players tweak the Sim's environment and gameplay to their liking. If gamers aspire to have a fantasy-themed The Sims 4 gameplay full of dragons, fairies, and mermaids, they should install the right mods and CC packs.

Created by Ratboysims, the Star Skin Skintones + Facepaint CC pack allow gamers to change the skin tone of their Sims into otherworldly shades. The CC pack includes 18 ethereal skin tones and four mystical facepaint items that gamers can choose from.

With the CC pack, gamers can create green-colored Martians for a Mars Attacks! themed The Sims 4 world or blue-toned humanoids reminiscent of the aliens from the hit sci-fi movie Avatar. The cosmetic set included in the CC pack can further amplify the alien look of Sims as these look like tiny galaxies and stars.

From Hedwig in Harry Potter to Owl in Winnie the Pooh, there are plenty of owls that can be seen in fantasy franchises and media. The Sims 4 gamers can also have their own wise owl in-game by using the Owl Shoulder Acc mod by Natalia-Auditore.

The modification allows gamers to have an owl companion on their shoulder, which can help them fulfill their elven ranger or wizard fantasies. Unfortunately, the owl is purely a fashion accessory and just chills on the shoulder of the Sim.

The CC pack includes plenty of Pufferhead merchandise that takes direct inspiration from Harry Potter. From movie posters, clothes, decorations, and other enchanted items, the CC pack contains everything a literary wizard fan might need in Sims form.

Pixies often make an appearance in fairy tales, however, not all of them look like Tinkerbell. Made by a user named Pyxis, the CC pack Gossamer is filled to the brim with various items that can help Sims players create a Pixie.

However, the pixies that can be produced through the mod look more like insects than traditional fairies. The mod also includes various CAS elements that can help players make the perfect pixie, such as gradient skin tones, bug eyes, iridescent wings, and interesting butterfly antennae.

In many great fantasy film franchises, particularly in The Chronicles Of Narnia, Satyrs often make an appearance. The mythological creatures are distinctly known for their human-like torsos and legs and ears that resemble those of a horse.

The Satyr Legs CC pack by Natalia-Auditore makes it possible for players to incorporate Satyrs into their Sim's world. To turn a Sim into a Satyr, players can easily choose the CC pack and put it on as if they were making their Sim wear a different pair of pants.

The CC pack turns the adorable and lovable Sims dogs into menacing and ferocious dragons. Gamers can customize their pet dragons to their liking by changing their head, wings, claws, and tails. Players should remember to install The Sims 4 cats and dogs pack though if they want the enchanting CC pack to work.

Mermaids are staple characters in fantasy stories and are known for their distinct fish-like tails. However, other descriptions of the mythical creatures paint them as terrifying and vicious sea monsters with scaly skin, sharp teeth, and elongated ears. The Siren Ears CC pack by a user named tekri allows users to equip siren ears on their Sims, which greatly resemble the fins of an angelfish.

Modders from the Stardew Valley community have run rampant with this aesthetic, creating a wealth of mods that can completely change your farm into the ideal cottagecore fantasy. I've spent a lot of time digging through Nexus mods and have listed my favourites below.

Some of the mods listed will need other support mods to be installed alongside it, with Content Patcher being a big one. Make sure you check the description of each mod to make sure you've installed everything you need. If you want a quick refresher on how to install mods, check out our Stardew Valley mods guide.

Never thought I would write about the importance of videogame grass but these grass mods are a must for getting that prime cottagecore aesthetic. You'll first need to install the More Grass mod created by Satozaki, and then add the following packs.

Wildflowers are a must in any cottagecore fantasy so Realistic Wildflower Grass and Witch's Garden Flowers by Squiver, and Wildflower Grass Field from DustBeauty will give you luscious, flowery grass that will have you frolicking in no time. Installing CatCattyCat's Winter Grass will also make sure that luscious grass will grow all year round and not shrivel up and die during the cold.

Stardew Valley has a lovely bright art style, but for cottagecore we want more of a naturally faded photograph look which is where DaisyNiko's Earthly recolour comes in. Trees, grass, foliage, and even buildings now have a more subtle, earthy hue. If that mod is a little too earthy and you want a little more saturation, Grapeponta's Vibrant Pastoral Recolor is another great option.

This Flower Valley mod by both paradigmnomad and KAYA fills Pelican Town and the surrounding areas with flowers. What I love about this mod is that it doesn't just cover the ground with blossoms, but every building and farmhouse also has flower vines growing up its walls.

Realistic crops and foraging is a mod that changes up the colours of Stardew's vegetables and crops so that they look more like the real deal. They don't completely get rid of Stardew's colourful sheen, but it does make them a little easier on the eyes.

Another mod that changed my Stardew life is DustBeauty's Succulents, a mod that lets you not only display succulents but grow them too. You can place potted succulents anywhere you like and, although they take a long time to grow, they have a chance of dropping multiple produce.

If you're looking to spread your cottagecore influences past your own farm, then switching up the style of Pelican Town's buildings is a must. My favourite is Way Back Pelican Town by Gweniaczek, which makes all of the game's buildings have an old-fashioned vibe to them. It's still in alpha but it's a fantastic mod. If that's not quite your style have a look at Yellog's Wood Buildings, Hadi's Spanish Revival Buildings, and Enchanted Gardens by naeldeus.

Kwillow seems to be the master of animal sprites as they have completely revamped Stardew's animals, giving them more variation than ever before. They've done cows, sheep, goats, and pigs with different types of patterns and colours. I recommend Elle's New Barn Animals if you'd rather have your animals looking a little plumper and cuter, and if you want to go full Harvest Moon with your animals check out IdentityPollution's Cuter, Fatter Cows mod.

There are so many furniture packs for Stardew Valley and choosing which ones will suit your farm really comes down to colour palette. My favourite is Hesper's Industrial Kitchen and Interior, which has a great combination of old-timey kitchenware and white furniture that matches all the plants I have in my home. I also love Spotteddotted's Witch Furniture, which has lots of leaves and natural room decor, and Yellog's dark wood and cream furniture if you're going for that chic old granny vibe.

To say that I hate the giant cheese sticker on the front of Stardew Valley's cheese press is an understatement. But, with Ankokou's Primitive Artisian Equipment, that sticker is now gone. This mod overhauls all of Stardew's crafting items, giving them a more natural look that blends in better with your farm and garden. I do occasionally switch to Gwen's Medieval Craftables, as this mod has vines and flowers growing up the side of most of the items which is a great touch.

"Basemental Mods" is a well-known pairing of mods, "Basemental Drugs" and its add-on "Basemental Gangs," that add actions and interactions featuring drugs, alcohol, and gangs, among other things, to The Sims 4. While "Basemental Drugs" requires only the base game to work, "Basemental Gangs" requires both the former mod, as well as Get To Work, to function. Both mods can be downloaded here.

The most prominent feature of the mod is its range of drugs for sims to experiment with. The list includes cannabis (weed), tobacco, cocaine, amphetamine, shrooms, MDMA, ayahuasca, xanax, lean, adderall, LSD, and steroids. The mod also includes edits to mixology that adds new drink recipes, as well as the ability for sims to become drunk, and even alcoholics. The drugs are acquired in differing and semi-realistic ways, with not all being available for purchase in buy mode. The only drugs available in buy mode are cocaine, amphetamine, MDMA, and tobacco. Cannabis seeds are included for gardening (incorrectly categorized in Indoor Plants, rather than with the other seed packets in Outdoor Activities), as well as rolling papers, weed curing jars, and bongs. Drugs can form addictions (which will result in an addiction moodlet for the affected sim), and repeated use of drugs in a short period of time can result in a sim's death by overdose. If WickedWhims is installed, sims can pay dealers for drugs with sex. A sim or household that frequently sells drugs may be subject to police busts or swat raids, in which they will be taken to jail and have their inventory items confiscated.

There are eleven strains of cannabis: Pure strains Northern Lights, Trainwreck, Komorebi Fantasy, OG Kush, AK-47, Sour Diesel, Purple Haze; and hybrids Sour OG, Purple Lights, OG Wreck and Purple AK-47. If no dealers exist yet in the world, gardening is the only way to acquire cannabis. Once 15 uncured buds are harvested from a cannabis plant, they can be cured in a weed jar. The cured buds can then be rolled into a joint or put into a bong, hookah, or vaporizer, or baked into edibles. Sims high on cannabis will get a dazed moodlet.
