Hi Processing Educators,
I just wanted to give a brief update on the STEMcoding project.
The new tutorials include walk throughs for games like Pong, Asteroids, and Lunar Descent. There is also a Pi day coding activity where students calculate pi using a 2D monte carlo approach. To my knowledge we are still the only p5.js based activities on
hourofcode.com.
2. Computer science faculty opening at the University of Mount Union
We have a close collaboration with Prof. Richelle Teeling-Smith in the physics department at the University of Mt. Union in Alliance, Ohio. She is asking for help in advertising a computer science faculty position there. It would be great if the person who ultimately gets the job has an interest in computer science education and p5.js. Please e-mail Prof. Teeling-Smith (
teel...@mountunion.edu) if interested, or if you have suggestions for colleagues that she should reach out to and try to recruit.
3. iPad compatibility improvement
There was an issue with the iPad apple brand external keyboard that was causing some real problems. I was able to modify the p5.js library to the point where the arrow keys on the iPad external keyboard would work. The fix is now in a pull request (
https://github.com/processing/p5.js/pull/3286 ) which makes me optimistic that it will be included in the next release. Basically none of our p5.js games worked properly on iPads until this got fixed.
4. Processing community day
I won't be able to attend processing community day in LA, but I would be happy to set up a video chat with some of the other cities holding processing community day events if people are looking for speakers with p5.js.
best,
Chris
