Interesting part about the new Lucene releases is that they are
focusing on machine learning algorithms.

"That will be a separate project, but may be beneficial to Lucene
users. There are currently some patches in JIRA for Lucene that
implement ML algorithms. The goal of this project is to provide
commercial quality, large scale machine learning (ML) algorithms built
on Hadoop under an Apache license. I have seen a fair amount of
interest already, and hope to have this project underway in the coming
month."

seem its now official..
http://lucene.apache.org/mahout/

they blasted an announcement last night.

note that Hadoop was a Lucene project, and just this week became a top
level Apache project. if Mahout is built on Hadoop, I would figure it
would move out of Lucene into Hadoop or something.
