To celebrate the upcoming launch of Bethesda's new space game Starfield, AMD has unveiled a new set of limited-edition Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPUs in celebratory boxes and Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards featuring the game's white, blue, red, and yellow color theme. There will be 500 units of each built in total, including 7800X3Ds and 7900 XTXs, but sadly AMD is not planning on selling any of these units to its wider audience. Apparently, its plan is to aim these limited-edition products at collectors instead, with giveaways starting at Quakecon.
The limited edition Starfield Ryzen 7 7800X3D will come in a custom-painted Starfield-themed box, featuring the game's black, white, and orange color theme as well as the Starfield logo on the side of the box. AMD says the box is the only custom design of the unit, with the chip itself apparently not having any sort of Starfield branding on it.
Conversely, the Starfield limited edition RX 7900 XTX is a custom reference design, featuring a painted shroud. The new paint job replaces the standard black paint scheme with a white color theme, accented by blue, red, yellow, and orange stripes and indentations. The full list of changes includes a matte white finish for the shroud and backplate, with black-painted heatsink fins and fans (like the standard design). The Radeon logo has been painted in a red and white finish, and the right end of the shroud has been painted entirely red, with a circular logo stamped on the side as well. The entire card is also stamped in unique spaceship text and features two white LED strips surrounding the middle fan (which we suspect might be RGB enabled). The little red stripe painted on the heatsink fins of the original card has also been changed to incorporate blue, yellow orange, and red stripes.
Again, it's sad to see that AMD won't be selling any of these units to mainstream consumers, but it sounds like there will be chances to win them. Don't forget, AMD's Starfield Game Bundle is still available if you want to get the game for free with the purchase of a qualifying Ryzen CPU Radeon GPU or AMD-powered system.
Countless Bethesda fans, and not just those excited about this cruise across the cosmos, were excited to get their hands on the premium content offered by the Starfield Constellation Edition.
Now that the Starfield release date has passed and all the major retailers have run out of copies, your chances of finding the Constellation Edition are sadly very low. You might be able to find one from a scalper somewhere, but that will come at an extortionate price that we imagine will put off post players.
Even if you missed the chance to pre order the Constellation Edition, you can still have a comprehensive experience of the game through the Premium Edition. Discover our Starfield merchandise page for all the limited edition Starfield-themed gear, including the official Starfield controller.
Whatever version of Starfield you opt for, this Bethesda RPG looks IS another epic. Be sure to gear up for your voyage into the depths with our guides to Starfield weapons, Starfield character creation, Starfield ship types, Starfield factions, and Starfield traits.
AMD and Bethesda have unveiled a limited-edition Starfield-themed Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU and Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU at Quakecon 2023. Both are decorated according to the forthcoming open world space-me-do's "NASApunk" aesthetic, a blend of cool whites, blues and yellows which I will admit to finding rather attractive, as somebody who generally finds gaming hardware aesthetics an absolute turn-off. It's certainly better-looking than Nvidia's lurid Cyberpunk 2077 GPU from 2020, but if you're similarly beguiled, there's an unfortunate catch: only 500 of these GPU/CPU sets are being made, and they're exclusively available as part of a Quakecon giveaway.
So what's going on beneath that lustrous lunar coating and aura of cosmic adventure? Here's our James's RX 7900 XTX review: he summarised it as "the best of the current GPU generation, should you want a 4K card at a price that doesn't quite feel like a personal insult."
That's going back to December 2022, mind you: pestered for an update, James opined that "since that review I'd probably go for the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti instead, if I wanted a 4K graphics card that was cheaper than the RTX 4080". He adds that the CPU has just had a price drop - as of yesterday, you can get the standard 78000X3D bundled with a copy of Starfield and a set of Gunnar glasses for 380.
I'm going to take this opportunity to pre-screen an article I'd like to write at some point: why does so much gaming hardware have to Look Like That? Specifically, why does every desktop chassis have to look like a sleeping cyborg predator? My current gaming PC is relatively bare and unthreatening, but it still has a glowing cleft down the front which vaguely resembles the mouth of some cross-dimensional invader. The Starfieldy CPU/GPU above at least looks like it's not going to take a chunk out of my leg.
Earlier this month, AMD & Bethesda partnered to unveil the Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU and Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU featuring the Starfield theme. Both products are themed after Bethesda's upcoming RPG, Starfield, and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX in particular takes full advantage of the Starfield theme which looks great.
Both of these products were given away and were never going to be available in retail so the person auctioning these off at eBay must be really lucky to have gotten hands on these. Now, Starfield Limited Edition products are being auctioned off and the current bid at eBay stands at $2050 US which is fair considering these are limited edition products to begin with and only 500 units exist across the globe. The seller also claims that all proceeds will go off to charity:
The best part? All proceeds from the sale of this item will go towards supporting Mental Drive Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and mental health awareness. Mental Drive Inc. aims to create a supportive community using automobiles as a means of connection. Our initiatives span awareness and education, community support, collaboration and partnerships, and resource accessibility.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX itself has an MSRP of $999 US and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D costs $449 US so that's $1449 US in total. The current bit is around $500 US more than the MSRP but since the auction still has some time left, it can increase. For AMD fans and those who are looking forward to playing Starfield on PC, this is definitely a great package, one that even comes with a free copy of the game itself (Premium Edition).
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Starfield Limited Edition comes in a white-colored shroud with hints of red, blue, & yellow. The card even comes with identically matched and custom power cables. As for the CPU, it comes with a uniquely themed Starfield packaging which also looks great and makes for an interesting collector's item.
Bethesda has already announced AMD as its exclusive PC partner and its upcoming AAA RPG, Starfield, is already bundled with a range of Ryzen CPUs and Radeon GPUs. The game will get Radeon & Ryzen-specific optimizations with support for FSR 2. You'll be able to explore the world of Starfield on the 6th of September but the Premium Edition grants you 5 days early access with pre-loads on PC starting right now.
