1) the date 5/12/13 makes a right triangle.  But you sent the email this morning so I'm not sure why today is right angle day. :P 

2) I found ~12.073 for the side of the pink triangle.

I agree with Michael on question 1.

Is question 2's answer supposed to be simple (pretty) or not?
I've got one but it is _ugly_.

I went through the solution by calculating the numbers and came up with 13.3631, which is worth 0 points, but
does not agree with Michael.
