Flawed, feels very under written at a lot of places, dogshit visual effects, I mean who came up with that, and what's with the thermocol swords??, but still there are touches of mastery at places, and these are beautiful moments that stick with u, wud choose an irandam ulagam or even an NGK over something likenaane Varuven
I think the CG in Selvaraghavan's films never really bothered me as much as it did in this film. Some moments work very very well, but I found myself lost completely in the 2nd half. Also, the music aesthetic of Harris Jayaraj seems so unlike Selvaraghavan's other films, it felt like they belonged to a GVM film.
There is a good film somewhere in here but this is not it... Really appreciate Selva for trying to do something this experimental but it's almost impossible to look past the horrendous vfx, especially in a film this vfx heavy. I feel bad for pointing it out too cause I'm sure they must have done the best with what they got, but a film like this deserved to be made with a much bigger budget on a larger scale...
Selva's THE LAST AIRBENDER, but love is the basic and ultimate force instead of the elements, the use of CGI as a new way of seeing the world more than creating a new world. Don't know if it works at all sometimes because of his proximity via distance method sometimes alienates the viewer, but the same technique brings us closer and trusts the viewer to take quick, sudden emotional plunges. While I am mixed on its action template and the good/evil dichotomies it represents but avoids sometimes in favour of its romantic fantasy plots, but Selva completely trims down the corniness and sappiness when it comes to romance, but this is earnest, personal and Selva really wants us to believe in love like m Night says in Village - The world moves for love.
