Hey guys, Paul Helmke has posted his latest screed on the Brady
Bunch's site. Shouldn't be long before it shows up at Huffington.

Sorry guys. This was an old one. I jumped the gun.

Okay. NOW he's back with his latest and he's included a nice list of
their agenda for the upcoming year.

He's like the Energizer Bunny isn't he!? He just keeps going and going and going on about the same old Brady talking points. Never does he include any facts to support his claims.

Nice comment you wrote BTW, good job!

Thanks Yuri. I missed the part about the length limit until I was
ready to hit submit. Had to cut quite a bit out so I had to cross post
it on my blog with the fuller version. Oh well, I guess brevity is the
essence of eloquence.

It's interesting how few supporters he has on Huffington. You'd think
if there were any place that was going to have a high percentage of
folks rushing to his defense it would be there...

It's nice of him to provide a list of the items they'll be focussing
on for the next year. Gives us a great way to focus our efforts.

I think this is the wrong attitude.

We need to be on the offense and let him worry about defense. He should be
focusing his efforts on how to avoid going to prison under 18 USC 241
(http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/crim/241fin.htm) and preserving background checks
on M60s (Patton version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M60_Patton).

We can never slack off, we need to keep the pressure on them so we can
choose the time, place, and agenda of the next conflict. If they get to
choose then we will incrementally loose.

I agree except we have one major problem...we don't have the media on our side.

When pro-gun bills are introduced, they are either ignored by the media, or ridiculed and excoriated.  We post on our blogs and leave comments on the news sites that allow it, but the majority of people don't have the interest or inclination to dig into those things.  The general public gets a one note tune:  relaxing gun control will result in wanton death and destruction, the NRA wants to arm nutcases, kindergarteners and criminals and are being paid by the evil gun manufacturers, anti-gunners are kind, generous, community conscious members of society who wish only for the safety and health of your children, tightening gun control will result in a chicken in every pot, reduced global warming, a cure for acne and all creatures of the world living in peace and harmony.

When you hear the same crap over and over and over and over (and you're a sheep) it simply BECOMES the truth.

An effective offense can't just ignore the enemy.  An effective offense attacks the enemy and that's what we are doing by posting rebuttals on the anti-gun sites.  Unfortunately, since we can't control the media and they decidedly are NOT on our side, we don't get to choose the battlefields.  We have to attack the enemy where they are.  I think we've been pretty effective in the past several years but we can't get over-confident or complacent.

I absolutely agree with the basic premise:  get pro-gun legislation introduced for them to rail against rather than just us railing against the anti-gun legislation.  I agree and that is exactly what we in the VCDL try to do in Virginia...however that doesn't mean we can let up on them.  We have to stay diligent and attack the anti-gun rhetoric, misinformation and lies EVERY DAY...and not just on our blogs (where mostly only people who already agree with us read) or the Brady blogs (where mostly people who already disagree with us read) but in the newspapers (by submitting op-eds and LTEs), on the papers' comment systems, by writing legislators, joining and participating in the activities of your local pro-gun groups, etc etc etc.  The best defense is a good offense, but it has to be an effective offense, which means it has to effectively engage the enemy.  That's what we are doing so we just need to keep it up...I hate to say it but probably forever.

He's back again. This time it's the "gunshow loophole".

And now he's back taking aid and comfort from the Justice Department's
amicus brief.
