How do the
disasters in Japan and the ensuing clean-up
efforts affect global trade and what does it mean for the rest of the
world? Japan is the
third largest economy in the world and a top exporter. Have Japan’s
major trading partners seen a shortage of goods? The Japanese disaster could affect the
U.S. economy in a number of ways,
some positive and some negative.
Moody’s reports there are six major channels through which the Japanese
disaster could affect the U.S. economy: trade, interest rates,
commodity prices, equity prices, currency movements and monetary policy.
