Summer School for Importers

Back by popular demand, this 2-day course is intended for persons
working in Traffic and Customs compliance positions and others
involved with importing. The course will cover the information,
knowledge, resources and tools needed to meet Customs' expectations of
reasonable care. Persons completing this course will come away with
practical "how-to" information, including (1) what is needed to do the
job, (2) how to obtain information and tools, and (3) how to use the
information and tools. This course will qualify toward the Certified
Customs Specialist certification.

SUBJECTS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE:

· Establishing and utilizing internal controls

· Customs broker selection, powers of attorney, broker monitoring

· Types of entries, customs bonds, paying duty, bonds, and
handling liquidations

· Determining and declaring a Customs value for a company's transactions

· Classifying imported articles, saving and utilizing
classification information

· Qualifying for the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism
(C-TPAT) Program and Importer Self Assessment Program

· Dealing with the Importer Security Filing ("10+2") requirement

· Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and Importer Self
Assessment Programs

· Qualifying (or not) for duty free exemptions and free trade agreements

· Using TIBs, bonded warehouses, Foreign Trade Zones

· Learning of and dealing with import restrictions and other
agency requirements

· Post entry actions - amendments, protests, claims, tenders and
disclosures

· Recordkeeping requirements and complying with the rules

· Responding to Customs requests and actions

· Dealing with penalties, liquidated damages, audits

Price includes class materials, lunch and refreshments. Persons
completing the 2-day course will receive completion certificates.
Please note you will receive 10 CCS credits from NCBFAA for attending
this two-day course.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Before joining Braumiller Schulz, Mr. Leeds was
a trade control specialist for Boeing and senior import specialist for
the US Customs and Border Protection. He holds a customs broker
license and Certified Customs Specialist certification.
