HiI'm hoping you'll be able to help - I don't have much experience with network licenses and this situation is confusing me! I have a client who's running two versions of LMTools: v. 11.12.1.4 and 11.14.1.3. They are only running Autodesk programs so it's not because of other products' licensing needs. When questioned why they have two versions they said they tried upgrading last year but were getting the "FLEXnet Licensing error: -15,570:The license server manager (lmgrd) has not been started yet, the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the port or hostname in the license file has been changed." in the new one so have stuck with the old one. I don't have experience with older versions of LMTools and I'm not sure if it's been properly installed - the 11.12.1.4 version is not showing in the list of all programs. I have checked the license and it is correct. Both LMTools show the same host name and MAC address in the System Settings, the MAC is static. They are running a virtual server with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard 64-bit. The "new" LMTools is installed in the default location (C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager), the "old" one in a subfolder under C:\Autodesk.
1) I know LMTools can be copied across from one computer or server to another and it seems that's how the older version of LMTools ended up on the server (unless back in the day there was no installer?) but is this going to affect its functioning?
Both LMTools apps have been configured in the same way - using a service with the same name, pointing to the same lmgrd, license file and debug file - so there is only one service running when you check the Services.msc. When running the server status inquiry in the old LMTools, it shows the correct status, users can access the 2018 versions of the software (they have not installed 2019 yet so I have suggested to do this to see if it will work - currently waiting on feedback). When running the status in the new LMTools, it shows the error message quoted above.
Ideally I would ask them to remove the service, remove all LMTools and reinstall just the new version to test, but apparently they have users using software 24/7 so cannot afford the potential downtime. I am trying to understand what is causing the error but it is difficult without being able to test and with my limited experience. I would be grateful for any input!
It was since pointed out that perhaps it *is* the 11.14 version running, but for some reason it uses the 11.12 environment to show the status and for some reason it shows an error in its own environment? It sounds weird but it does make sense considering 11.12 should not be able to "read" 2019 versions?
@Mark.Lancaster, @DarrenP this is what I was confused about too. But when you start the 11.12 LMTools and run status inquiry, all is good, you can see 8 out of 11 licenses are being used and you can see who started what, when. There are no errors. Curiously, the status indicates the 11.14 LMTools is being used.
The log file is shared between the two apps, I think that's why it shows no errors, it picks up the usage from the working version. If I try to point one LMTools to another (newly created) log file, the other one gets redirected there too... so it all works as if the two LMTools are one entity, just for some reason with two interfaces each reporting a different version... I think if we deleted the old one it would all work perfectly?
Just to let you know.. If you stop the service or replace it.. There's a low impact to the users.. The user's every so often ping the license manager.. If its not there, it will try again.. About the 2nd or 3rd time of pinging, the users will get a message..
There's some confusion here. LMTools is just the program you use to configure and monitor the service. The service consists of one license manager deamon, lmgrd.exe, v11.14.1.3 in your service, and one vendor deamon, adskflex.exe, same version as lmgrd.exe if installed together. Version 11.14.1.3 is required for v2019 of Autodesk products.
Yo can safely remove the old lmtools.exe. In fact you don't need any lmtools.exe to have the license service running, it's just used for maintenance.
This was the correct thing to do all along, and after cleaning up the old version and restarting the physical server, we got rid of the ghost duplicate of the licensing service and everything started working properly. Many thanks to everyone for their input.
I'm experiencing this same issue after system has been working fine for a long period of time. No updates or upgrades performed, running version LMTools 11.13.1.2 build 173302 x64_n6. AutoCAD & Maya app's affected. I did have data residing under c:\autodesk and was advised to move it under c:\program files which I did with no success. Each morning I have to manually start the service, if I first try to stop it, error is unable to stop server. Lic file is good through 08-dev-2019. Getting no answer's from autodesk support. Please help if you have a solution..............Thank you!
I've attached my debug file for review. I reviewed a thread from an autodesk technician that advised that one of the reason's the lmgrd would stop is if the install path was off the root of C-drive rather than under Program Files, I made that change with no improvement. I checked my server log's and found nothing referencing this, The Flexnet license service always shows started and running. I found that there is a 16.2 version of lmgrd and figured I would upgrade to see if that resolves my issue.
I could see if you had the file under the root of "C" but you had it under C:\Autodesk.. That's the new common location for the newer versions. Meaning the files are not installed on the root of :C.. You had it one level deeper.
I have standard code that applies to the licensing of our applications in the license file but nothing other than that. The debug is the path to the log files which I have correctly listed under "Config Services" for path's to lmgrd.exe file, licenst file, and debug log file. As mentioned, each day in LMTools, I have to do a Start Server because the lmgrd.exe process is not running.
Under service manager, the service FLEXnet Licensing Service is running under "Local System". When looking at task manager, the process LMGRD.EXE is running under my admin account because I am having to log onto the server, launch LMTools Utility and then Start Server. The task is running each day then stopping yet the FLEXnet service is always running. If I understand it correctly, the lmgrd.exe has no dependancy on the FLEXnet which puzzles me.
I'm thinking of trying an upgrade to the LMTool Utility (lmgrd.exe) to see if that fixes the issue. Please provide me your input suggestions, this is a new issue for me and frustrating...................Thank you!
This is not so much a question but maybe somebody from Autodesk reads the forums and update the instructions and save some other people going through the same headache as me. I am setting up Autodesk Vault Pro 2019 for the first time (no experience) and I am trying to follow the instructions.
5. In the Path to Lmgrd.exe File field, enter the path to the Network License Manager daemon (lmgrd.exe), or click Browse to locate the file. By default, this daemon is installed in the C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License Manager folder.
I'm trying to get a Network License Server running. Using XP and the latest license manager version (IPv4 only). I've already got my license file and the hostname and MAC address match. I cannot seem to get my server running at all. Here is an excerpt from the log file. I edited out the keys of course.
I've already tried reinstalling the license manager and checked to see that no other services are configured in LMTOOLS. When I watch the Task Manager, I see adskflex.exe start and disappear. I see 2 instances of lmgrd.exe after starting the service. The both terminate when I stop the service using LMTOOLS. I have disabled Windows Firewall and Macafee On-Access Scan. There are other licensing packages installed on this machine including lservrc and codemeter for other software.
The issue could be attributed to other application service using Port 2080, conflicting with the vendor daemon. If you are unable to change the application port use, then you can explore changing that on FLEXNET license.
Make sure you are only running one service for Autodesk licenses and you don't have more than one Autodesk license file configured. If you do, then you need to see my Combining LIC Files link in my signature.
I think Travis is correct, you may need to combine the licenses into one. Aside from that, since you're running licenses for version 2014, I recommend updating the license manager to 11.11 which can be found here:
Travis - Thanks for the reply. I went and looked in the containing folder and there was another license file that was an old one that had not been renamed yet. Just to clarify.. even if I am pointing to a specific license file i cannot have any other/old license files in the same folder?
As for this, you simply need to make sure there isn't more than one service listed in the pulldown of config services. You can have old LIC files. That's no big deal. You just wanna run one service for the Autodesk stuff and make sure that only one adskflex.exe is running when started.
