Do you mean two files or streams, output from the computer but input to
Print Wizard, to be combined? This is what overlays are for.

Do you mean two files or streams, fed into PW and ending up as one PDF,
for instance?

Do you mean one input stream into PW, viewed, then output to two
destinations, such as to both PDF and printer?

I am thinking about how you combined the 2 files for your movie.

See above

At present I don't have a use for this but that can change as this can allow
me to add fixed text and other visual items to reports.

Print Wizard's overlay capabilities are extensive. They've been around
for a while, so you'll find information on them in the manual for
version 3, available on the http://www.anzio.com website. The overlay
can be an image, a PCL file, an EMF created in MS Publisher, etc.
You can have multiple-page overlays, and/or multiple overlay files,
used in a specified pattern/sequence.

What's new about overlays in version 4 beta:

* PDF as overlay

* An ability to adjust the size and placement of overlays, and of the
text that goes on them.

* An ability to do page repeating and job repeating, in order to get
the equivalent of multi-part forms from a laser printer.

* An ability to preview multiple pages.

Print Wizard 4 is the first version of the product I've used so I'm
not sure if I'm using it correctly. I've created a profile by going
to the Tools menu and choosing Setup Profiles. I've configured the
printer I want the profile to use and under the Print Wizard tab in
the Overlay file to use textbox I've tried to use a PDF created in
Word 2010, and an EMF file created in Publisher 2010. When I copy the
PDF drawing into the despool folder the PDF prints but it doesn't have
the overlay file I created. Is there something else I need to do to
get the overlay to print on the main PDF file?

Thanks,
Chris

Let's ignore the EMF case for right now. You have a main file (call it
main.pdf) and an overlay file (overlay.pdf).

It sounds like you have a despool service set up. Is the despool service
configured to use the profile you've specified?

If you turn on debugging and logging, you can use "View log" in PWUI to
see what happened, and you might get a hint as to what went wrong.

Another test would be to make sure Print Wizard can print the overlay.pdf
by itself.

If you're still stuck, email me the two PDFs involved.

"View log" said it was loading the master.profile even though I had
checked the box to use my custom profile I created. I stopped and
restarted the despooler service I created and then it was using the
correct profile and the overlay PDF is printing on the main PDF file
now!

One item I noticed is when I went to pick the overlay to use for the
profile the "Files of type" drop-down menu does not include *.pdf
files even though that is a valid option. I think PDF should be added
to the list of files you can choose so that users know that they can
use a PDF file for the overlay.

Thanks,
Chris

The master.profile is ALWAYS loaded, if it exists. Then the configured
profile is loaded.

It was stopping and restarting the service that made the difference. When
you change the configuration of a service, such as which profile it should
use, a running service does not know that.

This list of file extensions is taken from the file printwiz.ini, as the
field "overlayext". You may have an old printwiz.ini file. Again, the log
will show you where this file is being loaded from.
