I'm looking for suggestions on how I should setup Print Wizard for
what I'm trying to do. I need to print a drawing that is in PDF
format and I have about 13 or 14 different PDF overlays that could be
printed depending on what is needed. I could create a service for
each overlay that I need to use, but that would create a lot of
services. Is there a better way to do this without creating a new
service for each different overlay I may need to use?

To test our Print Wizard I created a couple despooler services and
then in AnzioWin I copied the PDF to the despooler folder on our
Windows 2008 SP2 print server and it prints with the overlay.

When you use a despooler service, everything that is handled by one
service gets treated the same way. We have no job differentiation.

It is not unreasonable to set up 14 services, each watching a different
directory, and rendering the job with a different overlay (by using a
different profile).

We are exploring ways to do job differentiation. Brainstorm with me. If
Print Wizard was going to differentiate automatically, what information
could it key off of?

For a despooler service, would it be possible to have the name of the
profile be the folder that the despooler is looking for documents to
print? On our file server I've created a folder path G:\Data\output
\fablaser\fabdwg. I have a profile called fabdwg. Ideally I would
like to configure the Print Wizard service to look in all subfolders
of G:\Data\output\fablaser for items to print and then use the folder
name as the profile to use. So I could have multiple folders under G:
\Data\output\fablaser, one each for the overlay that I want to use,
such as fabdwg, qc, and hydro.

That's a good idea. We don't have that right now, but I think it would be
doable.

Chris,

You could set you profile to use the overlay foobar.pfd.

Before running your print job, copy the correct overlay to foobar.pdf and
then run your print job. When you print job is finished, delete foobar.pdf.

If you are doing this, you might want to setup your print program to check
for the existence of foobar.pdf.

This would allow you to have any number of overlays available.
