Save the Date: Middle East Outreach Council Educators’ Workshop: Dimensions of Diversity in the Middle East
Professional Development Workshop Saturday, November 21, 2015
Join us for a full-day professional development workshop on Dimensions of Diversity in the Middle East, hosted by the Middle East Outreach Council and The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at The University of Denver’s Joseph Korbel School of International Studies. We will have content-rich sessions on topics including “Religious Issues in the Middle East,” "Diversity in Middle Eastern Cities," and “Minorities in The Middle East” with scholars Dr. Carole Woodall from The University of Colorado, Dr. Andrea Stanton from the Department of Religious Studies at The University of Denver, and Dr. Jonathan Sciarcon from the Department of Judaic Studies at The University of Denver. We will also have an interactive hands-on session and introduction to best practices and resources led by Middle Eastern expert and educator, Barbara Petzen. Participants will receive a packet of materials to use in the classroom. A light breakfast and a Middle Eastern lunch will be provided.
This workshop is held in conjunction with the Middle East Outreach Council participation in the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) annual meeting, to be held this year in Denver November 21- 24. Workshop participants will be able to attend sessions at MESA, including the FilmFest, featuring films particularly useful for the classroom.
